Mogambo knit together a heady, hypnotic sound from the many enigmatic strands of Asia’s musical cultures: the deep traditional instrumentations of Siam and India, the high-tech edge of modern Bangkok, and the rich Goan bloodline of trance. The results are both otherworldly, yet instantly comprehensible. 

And now the duo, consisting of producer Sunju Hargun and multi-instrumentalist Jerom Doudet, returns with the latest missive from their own aptly-titled Siamese Twins Records:  Urvi (उर्वी).

The much- anticipated follow-up to their sought-after debut 12” Cobra (कोबरा) is a multi-layered sound bath, as versatile as it is visceral.  Urvi ranges from meditative sonic explorations to fearless entrancing rhythms and basslines, tangled together from the mysterious East.

Listen to this new track by hitter ALPHONSE, who is a steady source for breakin bangers and distinctive production for years now. With STILL EYE he is part of an excellent compilation curated by Bristol based producer REMOTIF. On his own label FAMILIAR STRANGERS he is releasing that pack of very dope tracks with the aim of raising funds for the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

IRC is currently assisting with emergency resettlement for Afghan refugees. Afghanistan is the single country most at risk of deteriorating humanitarian crises in 2022, and 100% of the profits from this release will provide uprooted families with tents, clean water, sanitation and other basic necessities.

The VA Compilation STRANGER TOGETHER will be out on the 4th of March and can already be preordered via Bandcamp

Floating through the night sky towards a destination unknown, she watched from a little window at the flickering stars and the dancing comets which weaved between the shadowy clouds and murky black.

She had once thought that space was a scary place but not now. How could she when it was now the only place left to call home? Perhaps that was the same with all fear – it was simply a case of inhabiting it, living amongst it until the threat began to disappear and perspective was realigned.
 
Night Defined is an Austrian electronic music label based in Salzburg and founded by Juergen Vonbank. It has evolved over the years having released an eclectic array of music from the likes of SW, Șerb, Eduardo De La Calle and more.

The latest split EP to emerge on the label features tracks from Mesak, Nurah, Mary Yalex and Even Tuell. It is Mesak’s which we bring to you today.

An echo through the ages, channelled and tuned by Young Marco. Feelings of tactile, loved-up naivety, transferred to musical waves of colour, rhythmic energy, and hallucinatory aural visions. This is ‘I’m Still Mellow’ and the psychedelic yin to its’ yang, reverse alternative version ‘Wollem Lits M’I’.

Both are imaginative 21st century takes on ‘Mellow’, a long-forgotten Amsterdam-born sub-genre of dance music that took the house template and re-imagined it for Dutch dancefloors in the early ‘90s.

Our friend Carli Löf – true musical genius, master producer of everything from rugged & raw grime scorchers to straight up Eurovision goodness – finally debuts on Barnhus, with nothing less than a timeless, laser-soaked rave hymn. On the flip we have our very own Pedrodollar Nordkvist flexin some serious remix muscle with your choice of contemplative comedown house and/or solemn ode to ancient trance gods.

In the words of a friend-of-a-Scottish-friend:

“Oh aye – that's a fuckin 3am punch yer mate in the face with joy effort. Well intae this! Just out of jail after 20 years and first night out with the old crew. Take a few eccies and that tune comes on and you turn to your pal, put your arm round him all sweaty and say 'it's just like a remembered it. I'm gonnae be awrite'.”

In early 2017, Public Release dropped a four-tracker by Brooklyn’s Earth Boys, a duo comprised of Julian Duron and Michael Sherburn, and now it’s being followed by a collection of remixes by some formidable names from around the world.
Where the EP of originals fell squarely in the category of vibey, shuffling, laid-back house grooves, Trail Remix is decidedly made for the after-midnight parts of club sets. The 12-inch begins with a T&P—that’s Beats in Space’s Tim Sweeney and Phillip Lauer—version of “Trail Mix.” Acid-flecked and hard-edged, and tongue-in-cheek at heart yet seriously functional, it’s the original red-lined and shot down the highway at ninety miles an hour. (Worth noting that this is the transatlantic unit’s first remix to be released.) After that is Earth Boys’ own redo of “Highway 1,” a juiced-up reimagining of the first version, filled out with chunkier kicks and fatter synth washes that completely envelope any sense of direction.
The flip leans towards the ethereal, stretchy, abstract, though it, too, is tracky and driven. The B1 slot goes to Canadian wunderkind Khotin, of 1080p and Normals Welcome, who blows some stardust into the tune, enveloping it in a blanket of sharp drums and icy pads. NYC mainstay Mike Simonetti, formerly of Trouble Man and Italians Do It Better, currently of 2MR, caps the record with his beefy overhaul of “Trail Mix,” a compression of industrial percussion, tribal rhythms and sub-bass undulations.

PREMIERE : Earth Boys - Trail Mix (T&P Remix)

Destino is a new experimental side-project by Yuksek, who debuts it on La Belle Records with two innovative tracks and a remix by Alek Lee.
Over a career that spans more than 12 years, Yuksek has released three albums and many EPs next to making movie soundtracks. He is someone who lives in the studio and this new project finds him in there making beats for hours, all on the fly. “It’s just about looking for textures and not worrying about genres, tempo or length of the track,” says the artist.
Opening track ‘Louis’ is a perfectly intoxicating summer cut with cosmic pads drifting about above a slow motion groove. It’s languid and horizontal and designed to bliss you out with the sparse percussion and pitch shifted vocals adding to the effect.
The masterfully hypnotic ‘Isla Grande’ is another super laid back effort with slow claps, pixelated synths and psyched-out guitar riffs that carry you off into the cosmos. Starry eyed and golden in colour, it’s a late night track of the highest order.
Remixer Alek Lee is a much-respected producer who has released EPs on the acclaimed Antinote Records. His take on ‘Louis’ is tender but more driven, jumbled, organic drums bring the groove while warped and saturated chords add heat. It’s spooky and subversive and rounds out what is a genuinely inventive and original package.

Been a minute since we featured something from Nail Shop Records but that ends now! Here we have a middle eastern delight in the shape of 'Al Disco Harem'. The 'spicy one' on the EP it's a real hybrid of influences. Maxed out disco drums are met with those wonderful middle eastern melodies (the instrument is called a Mizmar btw) and luscious deep pads before dropping into that grumbling italo-esq bassline. Top quality as always from 'The Shop.
