In 1960-80s, if you turned on the TV after dinner in a Chinese-speaking country, you would likely see two ancient martial heroes engaging in enticing battles while adorned in exquisite gowns and elegant long hair. Their kung fu entertainingly defied the laws of physics as they soared through the air, against a scenic backdrop, and most important to some captivating oriental tunes tailor-made for the show. Such music holds a special place in the hearts of local and diaspora Sinophone communities. It possesses a unique musical identity, blending uplifting traditional Chinese instruments with energetic and poetic vocals. In an effort to pay homage to this timeless art form and explore the possibilities of Canto-footwork, "Emergencies among Lakes and Rivers" presents a fresh take on the popular martial heroes songs, infusing them with contemporary and cutting-edge electronic music.

The EP opens with the track "Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber," where a fusion of hip-hop and footwork beats sets a dynamic and ever-changing rhythm. The energy of the original "Sweep over Mountain and Waters" is further amplified through electronic arrangements, culminating in an edgy and exhilarating finale. "Lonely Being Invincible" embraces an old-school juke arrangement, featuring addictive vocal samples with a touch of disco influence. "Best in the World" takes the exploration of juke music to another level, with constant build-ups and a surprising shift to a tranquil ending. It sets the stage for the original track "Laughter in the Vast Sea," which beautifully reimagines the morning vibes of the original into a nocturnal soundscape. The delicate arrangement and gradually complex rhythm captivate the listener, leading to a climactic and explosive conclusion that wraps up the EP in grand style.

Originally, it was said that humans consisted only of men, with no women. Prometheus, a Titan, cared for humanity and once stole fire from the gods to give to humans. This act angered Zeus, the chief god of Mount Olympus. To punish humanity and Prometheus, Zeus decided to create a woman who could tempt all men, and she was named Pandora.

Birth of Pandora
Zeus commanded the gods to endow this first woman with various qualities. For example, Aphrodite gave her beauty, Athena provided her with wisdom and skills, and Hermes endowed her with cunning traits. Once completed, she was given a gift – a sealed box, commonly referred to as "Pandora's Box".

Zeus purposely sent Pandora among humans, instructing her never to open the box. However, born with innate curiosity, she eventually did.

When Pandora opened the box, all calamities, diseases, and misfortunes flew out, spreading across the world and causing suffering for humanity. The only thing that did not escape was hope, which remained trapped inside.

Realizing her mistake, Pandora quickly closed the box, leaving hope as the sole entity inside.

Ambient artists We Dream of Eden (Kirk Smith) and Dear Gravity (Mike Graff) met in 2019 through the Hong Kong based record label Echoes Blue Music (Salt of the Sound, Narrow Skies, Antarctic Wastelands), when Smith created a remix for one of Dear Gravity's tracks. Both were so pleased with the process and the outcome that they started talking about the idea of co-writing. "The process was quite simple," says Smith, "we would each send song snippets and sketches to each other over the internet and Mike would add his flavour to my ideas and I would add my flavours to his. Mike’s sound design with guitars and pads made it easy for me to write to with pianos and vocal textures. We were both very open handed with the compositions and I think that helped to create a really tender and beautiful project."

Both artists have independently been featured in a variety of official Spotify playlists (including Stress Relief, Lava Lamp and Mind & Body), and have received praise from critics and listeners alike.

Smith concludes, "we tried to stay in that 'Riven' tension and I believe when you create through that place, beautiful things come out of it."

The seventh Amulet carries elements of water, burgeoning life and subtly glowing electricity. The Bulgarian artist Evitceles has been exploring themes of (un)natural life and personal vulnerability in his musical work since 2014, releasing a variety of albums and collections, several on labels such as Yerevan Tapes and Opal Tapes. The compositions of Evitceles do not shy away from tonal experimentations, unique forms of songwriting as well as different uses of rhythm and style; listening to his work feels much like a slow walk through a gallery of impressionistic paintings.
