Persephone liked to frolic,
In golden meadows so bucolic.
One day she bent to pick a flower,
And the earth erupted by godly powers.

Hades rose from the depths in a chariot of gold. He had a kidnapping plan so bold. He was tired of being lonely, so he abducted Persephone.

Demeter searched for her girl while her grief echoed through the world. She looked for nine days and nights, and her wroth brought an endless blight.

Demeter went to Helios for the truth. He said that the abduction was blessed by Zeus. In her rage, Demeter brought famine and strife, and vowed to destroy all life.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah 

Zeus had to intervene,
To prevent disaster to gods and humanity,
So he sent Hermes to the underworld,
To demand the release of his girl.

Hades agreed to set her free,
And gave a pomegranate for her to eat,
Persephone ate six of its seeds,
And was doomed by this fateful deed.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah  

After Hades had freed her,
Persephone went back to Demeter,
She told her mother about the pomegranate seeds,
So a compromise was made with Hades.

For six months she is on earth,
Persephone brings verdant life by rebirth,
But when she returns to the world below,
The trees become draped with ice and snow.

Every time Persephone moves,
The climate changes its mood.
The compromise is the reason,
For why we have hot and cold seasons.
