The Gladiators - Roots Natty

É uma banda jamaicana de reggae muito popular durante a Década de 1970. A formação inicial da banda foi formada pelos seguintes integrantes: Albert Griffiths (vocal e guitarra), Clinton Fearon (guitarra e vocal) e Dallimore Sutherland (vocal, baixo e guitarra). O líder vocal e formador da banda Albert Griffiths se revezava nos vocais com Clinton Fearon e Dallimore Sutherland demonstrando a grande versátilidade do grupo. Em 1987, Clinton Fearon deixa a banda para seguir carreira solo e decide morar nos Estados Unidos. A maioria das letras e interpretações são de responsabilidade de Albert. O primeiro grande sucesso da banda foi a canção melódica 'Hello Carol', em 1968. Os dois álbuns mais famosos são Trenchtown Mix Up (1976) e Proverbial Reggae (1978). Por problemas de saúde (Mal de Parkison) o líder e vocalista do grupo Albert Griffiths parou de cantar e deu a responsabilidade do grupo ao seu filho Al Griffhits , com vocal que lembra muito o timbre do pai, e com estilo próprio e muita energia no palco, Al Griffiths é mais uma revelação de músicos jamaicanos. Esta nova formação do grupo the gladiators continua a fazer shows em todo mundo em países como Áustralia, todo continente europeu e vai passar pelo Brasilna Tour Verão (dezembro 2013 a janeiro 2014). Com certeza o grupo the gladiators está sendo muito bem representado por Al Griffiths, já gravou discos como Fathers and sons, Kayans Meets Gladiators Band, Continuation, Zema With The Gladiators band.

The beautiful 'Babylon A Fall' features legendary Jamaican vocal group 'The Congos', one of the most distinctive and important vocal groups in Jamaica's rich musical history.

Described by central figure Natalie Pa’apa’a as the band’s “strongest collection of … songs to date”, the album was brought to life on location at Tuff Gong studios in Kingston, Jamaica – the very same utilised by genre hero Bob Marley – as well as at Melbourne’s renowned Sing Sing Studios and the band’s own digs somewhere amid the sprawl of the city.

“This album more than ever captures where and who we are in our art and activism,” Pa’apa’a said of the record. “Steadfast on our musical mission, we continue to gather and hone our skills, branching into new territories, crafting our intentions into art, communication and action ... we are given focus, determination and momentum by the indisputable and irrepressible fact that humanity is born free."

Aussie vet Mista Savona lent his talents to production, as did ARIA-winning producer Styalz Fuego and the folks of Kingston’s Notis Productions, with multi-Grammy-winner James ‘Bonzai’ Caruso handling mixing duties across Australia and the US.

"We're excited about this release,” Pa’apa’a enthused. “It's such an important time to be voicing, loud and clear, the integral duty we have to unite against systemic injustices, to reclaim our rightful freedoms, share the truth, expose governments and authorities for what they really are and importantly to be singing our support to the people who are creating new ways of thinking, living and thriving outside the current paradigm.

“We give ourselves and our music to the movement; in this day and age, what could possibly be more important than that?"
