Our inner space has been the only place left to us to wander lately. This mix is a kind of a soundtrack to this journey. It would not happen without my wife Marketa, who has been a constant source of inspiration and of a great many tracks, Georgi, who sorted out the sound, and Maja, who agreed to record the intro. Saku - Breakbeat Mix (2003)

Our Olivia's birth code is > 12022021 (it's both an ambigram and a palindrome). We don't know why she chose that date, but maybe she'll tell us one day. We prepared for her arrival by dancing - how else. Just a bit, so that she did not end up arriving in our kitchen. Markéta selected the tracks, I mixed them on the first take, and the next day we went to the maternity hospital. There has been three of us for over a year now… and we keep on dancing. Naše Olívie má v narození kód > 12022021 (je to ambigram i palindrom), nevíme, proč si tohle datum vybrala, ale třeba nám to jednou řekne. Na její příchod jsme se připravovali, jak jinak, než tancem. Decentním, abychom příchod nespustili už doma v kuchyni. Markéta vybrala tracky, já je na první dobrou namixoval a druhý den jsme jeli do porodnice. Teď už jsme přes rok tři… a tančíme dál. It took a few months to make this mix, I started around Christmas. Dozens of tracks have come and gone, but that is the most fun part of the process for me. We have a small baby, so everything is a little happier. We're trying to create a home for her to live in, not just a supermodernist place to go through. This is why I find the quote above especially fitting for this mix, which is all about playfulness and color.
A friend introduced me to "supermodernism" recently. He saw me mix in the lobby of a supermodernist hotel and the scene was like something out of a David Lynch movie.

SAKU breaking the supermodernism 2023 mix

"As long as you play, I'll dance" - my wife's wedding vows

This is a mix for my love and wife M*, who is my most loyal dancer. I had a collection of these tracks ready for a 4/4 gig that didn't end up happening. And my wife was sorry. That's why I made this mix. We talked a lot about what kind of 4/4 sound we're into now, she was a big influence on this track selection. Thank you M*.

I was preparing this mix sometime in 2020, but it just remained as a rough outline of the tracklist. And I've lost it, as well as the belief that it makes sense. This summer I opened a forgotten USB and the mix, or rather the skeleton of it, was there. Not that I think I've created anything special, but the tracks are still great. I thought it was nice to have the light shine on them again, in fact I felt like I owed it to them. And I didn't change anything, I just recorded it.

SAKU chasing ghosts (the lost mix)

This mix brings together recent work by producers from many corners of the world, but its title isn't about nailing down a specific contemporary sound. It's personal. With the arrival of our second daughter, my emotions are running high, and I’m once again in awe of the miracle of nature. I was looking for a natural accent in this selection, maybe with a bit of a psychedelic touch. Because that is my sound of today.

When I made this selection, I realised that the tracks come from very different parts of the globe and I decided to include the producers' locations in the tracklisting. I believe that where music is made adds a unique flavor to its universal language.

Unlocked Beats. This mix is a memory of summer 2020, the time of a brief respite in between two lockdowns, when we could lose it on the dancefloor again. Small open air events and smiling people enjoying the music brought the community back together. And these are some of the tracks that I always had on me when I went to play there. I wish that we all - club owners, promoters, Djs, sound engineers, club-goers and every other part of the scene - can soon go back to what we love. In the meantime, stay safe.
