[20/06/2025] Sins are the Reason for Natural Disasters, Trials and Tribulations - By Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqī حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

– Verily, We sent Messengers to many nations before you (O Muhammad). And We seized them with extreme poverty and loss in health with calamities so that they might believe with humility.

When Our Torment reached them, why then did they not believe with humility? But their hearts became hardened, and Shaitan made fair-seeming to them that which they used to do. Surah Anfal 6:42-43

– Explanation of the above verses by Shaykh Muqbil.

– “And let not those who disbelieve think that they can outstrip (escape from the punishment). Verily, they will never be able to save themselves (from Allah’s Punishment).” Surah Anfal 8:59

– Sins are the cause for calamities and fitnah tribulations on earth.

– Example of previous nations and the punishments that Allah sent down upon them.

– The necessity to thank Allah and be grateful especially in these disbelieving lands, Allah has withheld the punishment such as tornadoes etc.

– “If you give thanks, I will give you more…” Surah Ibrahim 14:7

– Story of Sheba and how the people turned away from obedience of Allah and the punishment that ensued.

– “And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.” Surah Shura 42:35

– The real reasons for the “natural disasters.”

– Narrations mentioning the virtues of Yemen and its people.

– Allah’s blessing and the safety can be replaced with hardship and difficulties.

[14/06/2025] The Foundation upon which the Jamā'ah is Built is the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ - By Abu Khadeejah ‘Abdul Wāḥid حفظه الله. lesson at Masjid ibn Seereen, Bristol,UK.

- The statement the topic is based upon. 

- The four imāms and the years of their deaths. 

- What is meant by Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah.

- The importance of knowing the jamā’ah and the foundation of unity.

- The age of peace, security and protection for all people. 

- Following the way of the Companions in having patience and being certain of the Aid of Allāh. 

- The response of the Messenger ﷺ to Khabbāb b. ‘Aratt (رضى الله عنه) when he asked him to supplicate to Allāh to alleviate their suffering. 

- What is meant by clinging to the jamā’ah.

- The reason the Khawārij made takfīr of ‘Alī (رضى الله عنه) and broke away from him. 

- The ḥujjah ‘Abdullāh b. ‘Abbās (رضى الله عنهما) established upon the Khawārij. 

- The ḥujjah ‘Abdullāh b. Mas’ūd (رضى الله عنه) established upon those making dhikr with stones in the masjid. 

- Allāh’s praise and extolment of the Companions in His Book.

- Looking at the religion through the lens of the Companions, not desires or opinions. 

- Loving and hating for Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) alone.

- Advice from Imām al-Awzā’ī (رحمه الله) on being patient upon the Sunnah. 

- ‘Abdullāh b. Mas’ūd (رضى الله عنه) on who is the jamā’ah. 

- The fitnah of social media today and the importance of following the advice of Muḥammad b. Sīrīn (رحمه الله). 

Questions:

1. If someone claims to be upon Salafiyyah but all of their friends are not upon Salafiyyah or are from masājid that are not upon Salafiyyah, do we say they are the same as their friends regardless of what they claim?

2. What is the response to those who are lenient with having speakers like Da’wah Man, ‘Alī Da’wah, Akhī Ayman and those similar to them? They use the excuse that they are good for new Muslims, that they may hear and return to the prayer.

3. Is it allowed for the one who fears he will miss Fajr to combine Maghrib and ‘Ishā at home alone in the summer when ‘Ishā is late in the night?

4. How do you reconcile between the narrations of the virtues of the Ṣaḥābah and the ḥadīth regarding the time that will come when holding on to the religion will be like holding on to hot coals and whomsoever holds on in that time will get fifty times the reward of the Ṣaḥābah?

5. What advice can you give with regard to brotherhood and sisterhood and how to avoid shayṭān from coming in between us?

– Regarding the two witnesses for a nikah, should they be upright and steadfast?
– Is it permissible to board public transport without paying, even if someone wants to attend the lessons in doing so?

– The importance of righteous companionship and the harms of evil companionship.

– Allāh تعالى said: “Verily! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them): “In what (condition) were you?” They reply: “We were weak and oppressed on earth.” They (angels) say: “Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?” Such men will find their abode in Hell – What an evil destination!” [Surah Nisa (4): 97].
– The story of the man who killed 99 men.
– Mankind can be affected by those whom he associates with swiftly.
– Hadith: Arrogance and pride is found amongst camel herders and tranquility is found against sheep herders.
– The signs and the characteristics of an evil companion.
– Story of when the Prophet ﷺ went to Abu Talib on his deathbed who was accompanied by the chiefs of the Quraysh - encouraging him to accept the shahadat and his companions encouraging him to stay upon the religion of Abdul Muttalib.
– Allah تعالى says: “Verily! You (O Muhammad ) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.” [Surah Qasas (28): 56].
– Advice to choose good companions over evil companions so you don’t have any regrets.
– Allah تعالى says: “And (remember) the Day when the Zalim (wrong-doer, oppressor, polytheist, etc.) will bite at his hands, he will say: “Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ).
“Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!
“He indeed led me astray from the Reminder (this Qur’an) after it had come to me. And Shaitan (Satan) is ever a deserter to man in the hour of need.” [Surah Furqan (25): 27-29].
