Salimata Diop is a young pianist and composer. She lives and works in Dakar, Paris and London.
She studied piano under professor Odile Perraut -Medaille d’Or of the Marseille conservatory and a disciple of Yvonne Lefebure- and later under François Weigel, pianist, composer, and conductor, award winner of the Philip Morris Foundation, of the Midem World Classical Music Awards, and a Knight of the Order of Academic Palms.
Salimata Diop holds a diploma from the Legion of Honour Music School, obtained in 2008, with distinction, under the supervision of professors François Weigel and Manjola Camuset-Trebicka. She performed a number of recitals and eventually started to compose in 2015, drawing inspiration from her travels and from her knowledge of classical music.
At 29 years old, Salimata Diop also works as an established art curator and art critic. She is one of the rare curators of her generation whose practice focuses on the contemporary visual creation from Africa. She regularly contributes to art publications and has curated a number of exhibitions in France, in the UK, in Senegal, etc
