The Portal (The Looking Glass) is a song about the magic of the world inside the wardrobe, the world through the looking glass, the world that you discover when you take a trip down the rabbit hole. 

All of these concepts have the same underlying ideology which is that there is more to reality and that there is a lot more to what we know as reality. I can wake up in a dream state fully conscious, just as conscious and just as real as this physical reality. 

In my second verse I say that "You have to run as fast as you can just to stay in the same place. I find that to be as true as anything else that we all agree to be true.

The Portal

This song is about sacrificing short term pleasure in the present for a better version of yourself and a better version of your life in the future. Salohcin talks about delay of gratification and his commitment to his future self.

Canadian Musician Salohcin has stepped onto the music scene in 2020 as a song writer and composer, he has been a beat maker since the age of 16. He spent his entire life working with different local rappers. One of the most common themes was that rappers would always want instrumentals that sound like the most common popular rap/trap beats. Salohcin always created his music with his own taste and always followed his own intuition when it comes to making music. "For a long period of time I had to stop listening to the popular music", says Salohcin. He went on to say that it would influence his music creation process in a way where he would question his style compared to what's out there and most popular.

So for many years Salohcin stuck to his style, developing his unique sound and not letting any outside influence dictate his sound. "I understand that people want to sound like their favourite artist", Salohcin mentioned that he understands the allure of making music that sound the same as the most popular artists, but he insists that it is not the best way to be noticed. "I feel like it doesn't take much, if any creativity to copy the style and sound of someone else"

Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Salohcin grew up listening primarily to hip-hop/rap music but was always inspired by all the classic legendary songs of any genre. The rapper and album that inspired Salohcin the most was Ice Cubes's War & Peace vol. 1 Album. "I still think that's one of the greatest rap albums of all time". Salohcin was also  inspired by the Cleveland rap group Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, not to mention many other artists. "That list can be provided upon request!" 

After not having any real successful chemistry as a beat maker with any of the local rappers in Montreal, and being motivated by his love for the art and the love of making music and the love for the whole creative process and the feeling you get after you finish a song. Salohcin decided to set his mind on the writing and lyrical aspect of music. "I told myself that if I'm going to do this I'm going to do it right" meaning, "I never wanted to rap because I didn't want to say things that are not true". He's right because a large percentage of what most rappers say are not true at all. Salohcin doesn't want to just "Say whatever" he wants to actually provide the listeners with lyrical content.

Salohcin's overall message is that he believes in the creative spirit to manifest original ideas. He insists  that he wants to make music that is different, first of all, and also wants to have a positive message in his songs and try to offer some sort of meaning and inspiration and motivation. Salohcin said that he was not impressed with the majority of the lyrical content in todays hip-hop and feels like he can be a new voice in the industry and provide "Music with a message". Music with a powerful positive message indeed!
