HotHooves - Fake Modern Art -Released 30/11/12 on Rivet Gun Records.

Deep crunch.  This is what sets Oxford's punk melodists Hot Hooves apart from people who, like, want to be in a band, yeah?  

They’re back . . . 10 more scintillating, sideways glancing, wry, rollicking, combustive cuts of quality latter-day punkrok, made by twilight dwelling daddy-o’s for the refuse-nik to grow up generation. 

Locked into Shonk Studios and lashed onwards by former Candyskin John Halliday, the four fools wept real blood (a miracle) and sweated real ale and vegetarian jalfrezi in order to complete Fake Modern Art.  That’s the title of their new album.  

It opens with footstomping anthem Youth Activator, in which singer Mac, recently released from a Middle Eastern prison cell, rages against protest as a subsidized leisure option.  The ten songs range from demented robot wars to pounding hyper-disco.  By the end, in desperation, HH turn to 70s guitar boogie as co-vocalist Momtchiloff warns they are 'Too Fuxxed Up To Fix'.

So, everyman …. 6.5 metric songs about how your lives are being messed up by forces you have no control over and 3.5 metric songs about ‘characters’ who appear to have needed no help in the process …. It’s like Charles Dickens grew a Mohican.

The dissident foursome have been linked to anti-capitalist and anti-Swindon protest movements.  At recent concert simulations the band have deployed sonic assault and radical performance ritual to disrupt the audience's use of handheld devices.  One band member has a small child and is hoping for clemency.

Ispíní na hÉireann are an alternative-traditional band from Dublin, formed in 2018 by Tomás Mulligan (lead vocals, guitar) and featuring Paahto Cummins (vocals, banjo), Pádraig Óg Mac Aodhagáin (saxophone, uilleann pipes, flute), Aongus MacAmhlaigh (vocals, cello, fiddle) and Declan Gillen (drums, bodhrán, pad).
Rooted in Irish traditional music yet fearlessly inventive, the band brings together some of Ireland’s most exciting contemporary musicians, with backgrounds spanning classical, jazz, opera and bluegrass.
Blending original compositions with unabashed reimaginings of staple traditional repertoire, Ispíní na hÉireann craft a sound that is raw, raucous, and unmistakably Irish.
