A song written for the annual Wassail Ceremony at Haywood Cider Farm in Cornwall.

Oll 'Vel Onen', in the Cornish language or, All As One, in English. 

We wrote the song inspired by the moto on the Cornish Shield, One And All, and the black and white of the Cornish flag. Black and white are considered opposites, but in essence they become one on the flag. We feel the song has particular relevance in our fractured political climate and we feel is a declaration, an anthem of 'oneness', that needs to be sung and rediscovered in order to restore balance.

The moon’s cycle and pull deeply effects us all and as a surfer living by the sea in Cornwall it is strongly evident in the tides. Cornwall, or Kernow, with her wild moorlands, exposed granite cliffs and wave drenched sands, is a land of legend and folklore that has captivated and drawn people with her magic for centuries to wonder and create their own tales upon her shores. 

It’s hard not to feel a deep resonance with nature and the seasons in Cornwall, yet with our modern ways and the exponential rise in tourism this land is understandably bustling during the summer months, which can feel disorientating and like we may have wandered from her ancient and less trodden path.

But September’s restorative caress always comes around and is a month many who live in Cornwall, and perhaps even the land herself, long for. The air and sea are still warm, the holiday crowds start to thin a little, and there is and excitement of reconnection in the first autumn swells…

Recorded in the magical St James The Great Church in St Kew Church Town with it’s wonderful natural acoustics by the talented engineer and producer Josh Best-Shaw and featuring Scotland’s rising star on the blues scene Calum Ingram on cello.

Brother Sea - September

Brother Sea recorded their Christmas single Royal Parade on a beautiful cold and sunny winter’s day in Port Isaac overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the historical space of St Peter’s Church. 

They are releasing the song, written by Freya Harbottle, for the homeless charity Shelter. It is a song that seeks to celebrate all the good that can be found within a story that will never grow old. Amongst the modern stresses and busyness of Christmas, there are also threads of gentleness, wonder, humility, love and peace to be found that have been weaving their way through all of humanity in each advent and winter since the beginning of time.

During this unprecedented season of advent and Christmas, where many of us find ourselves separated from those we love or have lost, we hope this song serves as an encouragement to watch for the goodness of light. For the small, gentle glow of a flame that flickers in the darkness; whatever the light may mean for you and wherever it may be found…
