Following last year’s The Link Up EP with DJ Polo, London club music veterans Tribal Brothers return to Livity Sound with four tracks of taut, high-impact drum science. 

Given LR Groove and Razzlerman’s long-standing legacy within UK Funky and many other genres, it’s no surprise to hear the distinctive, shuffled 4/4 thrust behind the tracks on Formation EP. Reflecting the wide-open dialogues taking place between global dance cultures, the duo once again draw on a variety of international styles and fold them into their productions. You might notice touches of harder rave-rooted soundsystem music, but there’s also a pronounced influence from across the spectrum of Afro house. They namecheck amapiano artists Virgo Deep, Felo Le Tee and Kabza De Small, Afro house titans Black Motion and Black Coffee and Gqom pioneer DJ Lag as sources of inspiration. 

Fusing these touchstones with their own steeped history in London-rooted club sounds, their end product comes out as a self-described blend of “hard-hitting bass lines, complex drum patterns and African chants,” effective in their live ‘decks n’ drums’ shows as well as in their productions.
