I was sick with covid when making this mix so I felt like making something spacey (like my headspace was at the time). longer transitions, lots of blending, which gave me time to play with effects and create loops of ambient breaks to play over drops to create a floaty atmosphere... until the end where it takes a turn and gets a bit darker and chaotic. FILTHY ROLLERS, JUNGLE AND NEURO DRUM AND BASS MIX from Sub Sbass Inna Jungle Bush Doof

OG Jungle, is a sample pack compiled by old school Jungle producer 'Fringe'. It is reminiscent of the sounds found on the original sample CD’s of the 90’s (think X-Static Goldmine, Datafile, Jungle Warfare). The intent is to provide authentically classic sounding samples, which are not easily obtainable and allow producers new and old, access to the OG sound.

All samples were created and recorded from hardware, or sampled and refined from original Jungle vinyl, CD’s, etc.  Sounds were sourced from original synths from back in the day and processed through accompanying hardware effects and compressors, to capture that raw and authentic sound.

About Fringe
Fringe (formerly known as Rippin’ Snare) is a producer based outside of Toronto, Canada and has been making Jungle, since 1995.  Starting out with Tracker Sequencers, before moving into hardware in the late 90’s, Fringe has always been into the classic sounds of Jungle and has been a collector of the gear and recordings of that era, for the past 25 years.

STRANJAH and Fringe developed a bond, since meeting on a local music BBS (Da Club) in the fall of 1996.  Their shared interest in Jungle Music has maintained this relationship, even as they went in different directions, in terms of their sound.  STRANJAH successfully pursued DnB, while Fringe stayed true to the older sounds of Jungle.  To this day, they still remain close and fully support each other in all manners of music and beyond.

I had the honour of opening for Delta Heavy in Brisbane last night (30.4.23). I wanted to play a set of deep dnb - highlighting both the beautiful and ugly sides of the genre, whilst at the same time gradually increasing the energy and getting the dance floor ready for the main support acts. I'm so happy with how this set went down, and genuinely love opening up a rave. I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I did making it.

💿 Lost Dubs 010 – ex per i mental (2008)

This track has been sitting on the shelf for years because it never really fit in anywhere. It has no melody, just rhythm and space. At the time I was deeply inspired by the drum programming of Sixteenarmed Jack and Krinjah — producers I respected not just for their skills, but as colleagues and friends. This was my nod to them.

Originally, this wasn’t even going to be part of my Lost Dubs series. LD010 was supposed to be a remix of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, but unlicensed vocals meant it couldn’t be released. That sent me back to the vaults, and one night after a long session out, I sat with this track again. I heard something in it that I had never noticed before — something I can’t quite explain. Talking about music is like singing about architecture, but it was there.

So here it is. ex per i mental. No melody, no polish, just an exploration of drums, patterns, and negative space.

I’m mostly sharing this here because I think people in this sub will dig it. Would love to hear what you think.
