Special Session – Sounds Like A Book Bucharest

Sounds Like a Book: Memory
Artists: Marianna Asimakopoulou, Teodora Dobrotă, Lu Fraser, Ioana Hogman, Anca Roșu, Azam Shadpour. 

The samples are selected from an audio composition in the form of an audio walk, created for this year’s edition of Sounds Like a Book: Memory Residency by Marianna Asimakopoulou, Teodora Dobrotă, Lu Fraser, Ioana Hogman, Anca Roșu, and Azam Shadpour. The residency took place from the 7th to the 28th of September in the village of Șona, Brașov County, Romania.
Conceived in and for Șona, the audio walk gathers the voices and stories of the locals, intertwined with the sounds of daily life and moments shared during the residency. Each recording is transformed, layered, and mixed to create an immersive experience for those walking through the village.
By selecting rhythms (e.g.: sewing machine), voices (e.g: laments), atmospheric sounds (e.g.: dog barking in the distance), and key moments from the encounters with locals (e.g: snippets from the interviews), the samples aim to create a mosaic of the experience lived in Șona, offering participants in Sample as That a deeper insight into the process behind the composition.
