Uwdar (czyli 1/2 duetu ETNOBOTANIKA) prezentuje album Broken Planet. Wydawnictwo kasetowe oznaczone w naszym katalogu jako SPRK004 to coś absolutnie wyjątkowego. To co pierwsze rzuca się w oczy to sam wygląd kasety. Postanowiliśmy nieco zaszaleć i po raz pierwszy zrobiliśmy kasetę typu full print, a ponadto na dwóch stronach kasety znajdują się dwie różne grafiki w rożnych kolorach, które dzięki efektowi przezroczystości nakładają się na siebie. Do kasety dołączona jest także wkładka z czterema dwustronnymi panelami wypełnionymi zdjęciami, które przedstawiają inspiracje dla tego albumu. Projekt kasety w oldschoolowym stylu współgra z muzyką, która nawiązuje do złotych czasów breakbeatu, jungle i trip-hopu. Dobrze znanym breakom towarzyszą nostalgiczne, syntezatorowe melodie, za które tak polubiliśmy ETNOBOTANIKĘ i oczywiście sample. Jest tu sporo gitarowych wstawek umiejętnie wyciętych ze starych polskich punkowych kaset, ale też echa głosów z VHS (np. klasyczny dialog z Serpico, Beavis i Butt-head!) czy wycinki audio z gier komputerowych z epoki (Tony Hawk Pro Skater). Jeśli pamiętacie czasy pirackich płyt CD i kaset, gdy królowały albumy Prodigy i Westbama, jeśli godzinami giercowaliście we wspomnianego Tony'ego Hawka czy Wipeouta, to ta kaseta zapewni Wam niezły nostalgia trip! Rzecz jasna nie jest to tylko odtwarzanie tego co było kiedyś. Uwdar sięga po oryginalne breaki i przetwarza je na swój wyjątkowy sposób tak, że cały czas mają taneczny potencjał, ale albumu jako całości, między innymi dzięki licznym skitom, interludiom i zmianom tempa, świetnie słucha się w całości. Z tego wszystkiego wyłania się coś jeszcze - opowieść o "Połamanej Planecie". Czy to komentarz do czasów, w których żyjemy lub kondycji nas wszystkich jako ludzkości? Przekonajcie się sami!

Uwdar (that is 1/2 of ETNOBOTANIKA duo) presents Broken Planet album. The cassette release marked in our catalog as SPRK004 is something absolutely unique. What strikes at first sight is the very look of the cassette. We decided to go a little crazy and for the first time we made a full print cassette, moreover on two sides of the cassette there are two different graphics in different colors, which thanks to the transparency effect are superimposed on each other. The cassette also comes with an insert with four double-sided panels filled with photos that represent the inspiration for this album. The cassette's old-school design works in tandem with the music, which harkens back to the golden days of breakbeat, jungle and trip-hop. Well-known breaks are accompanied by nostalgic, synth melodies for which we liked ETNOBOTANICA so much and, of course, samples. There are a lot of guitar interludes skilfully cut from old Polish punk tapes, but also echoes of voices from VHS (e.g. a classic dialogue from Serpico, Beavis and Butt-head!) or audio clips from computer games of the era (Tony Hawk Pro Skater). If you remember the times of pirate CDs and cassettes, when Prodigy and Westbama albums reigned supreme, if you spent hours playing the aforementioned Tony Hawk or Wipeout, this cassette will give you a nice nostalgia trip! Of course this is not just a recreation of what used to be. Uwdar takes the original breaks and transforms them in his own unique way so that they still have dance potential, but the album as a whole, thanks to numerous skits, interludes and tempo changes, among other things, is a great listen. Something else emerges from all this - the story of "Broken Planet". Is it a commentary to the times we live in or the condition of all of us as humanity? See for yourself!

Cat.Finch i Pstyk napisali piękny listy list miłosny do starych gier video - Insert Coin. Obaj artyści działają na marginesie polskiej sceny hip-hopowej - obaj wydają własne mixtape’y z muzyką zdecydowanie różną od rapowych przebojów. W muzyce Cat.Fincha słychać wyraźne inspiracje brytyjską sceną (artysta mieszka na co dzień w UK) - jego Nine Lives Mixtape spokojnie mogłoby się znaleźć w katalogu Night Slugs. Pstyk z kolei nieustannie eksploruje różne estetyki na licznych beattape’ach - od lofi hip-hopu „do studiowania” w PstykTales, przez przepełnione samplami z VHSów Pstyk And His Mysterious Stories aż po phonk w Trippin in Wroclove (koprodukcja z Czarnobrodym). Wspólne nagranie Cat.Fincha i Pstyka, czyli Insert Coin, jest ciekawą wypadkową tych inspiracji, ale - mimo wspólnego mianownika w postaci sampli z retro gier - obaj artyści wyszli też dużo dalej. Mamy tutaj próbki nie tylko z NESa, SNESa, Segi czy N64, ale też masę pięknych syntezatorowych melodii czy wpadających w ucho soulowych partii zaczerpniętych z zakurzonych winyli i kaset. To nie jest po prostu 8bit na trapowych/hip-hopowych podkładach. Nawet jeśli pojawia się tutaj bas z 808 czy trapowe cykacze to struktura utworów prowadzi je w całkiem piosenkowe rejony (mimo, że to muzyka instrumentalna!), a to właśnie za sprawą podstawowej siły tego albumu - organicznych melodii i kontrastujących z nimi 8bitowych, surowych sampli. Ten album śmiało mógłby zostać pozbawionych jakichkolwiek instrumentów perkusyjnych i broniłby się jako doskonała płyta ambientowa. Sprzyja temu zresztą całościowe wrażenie, jakie robi muzyka na tym albumie - słowo klucz to melancholia. Któż nie tęskni do beztroskich dni czasów dzieciństwa i nastolęctwa, kiedy mogliśmy sobie pozwolić na odpalenie konsoli 5 minut po przebudzeniu i - pozostając w pidżamie -  „przegrać” cały dzień? Nastrój ten wyczuł też doskonale Mateusz Mazak odpowiedzialny za stronę wizualną wydawnictwa. Jego ilustracja przedstawiająca klasyczny automat do gier zdobi rozkładaną okładkę do kasety, a sama przezroczysto-czerwona taśma od razu przywodzi na myśl kartridże z Mario Bros. Dajcie się ponieść nostalgii i wy - czas na „Insert Coin” i press play!

Cat.Finch and Pstyk have written a beautiful love letter to old video games - Insert Coin. We have here samples not only from NES, SNES, Sega or N64, but also a lot of beautiful synth melodies or catchy soul parts taken from dusty vinyl and cassettes. This is not just 8bit on trap/hip-hop backing tracks. Even if there is some 808 bass or trap cymbals, the structure of the tracks leads them into quite song-like regions (even though this is instrumental music!), and this is due to the basic strength of this album - organic melodies and contrasting 8bit raw samples. This album could easily be stripped of any percussion instruments and would defend itself as a perfect ambient record. This is supported by the overall impression of the music on this album - the key word is melancholy. Who does not long for the carefree days of childhood and adolescence, when we could afford to fire up the console 5 minutes after waking up and - staying in our pyjamas - "lose" the whole day?  Let the nostalgia take hold of you too - it's time to "Insert Coin" and press play!
