Although this morning’s news may be weighing heavy, at least it’s Friday right? We’ll soon be drowning our sorrows (maybe at the last two dates of the Family Portrait tour) and we’ve even got a brand new Hand Cut Record Club single to present to you.

With previous releases on Captured Tracks, Faux Discx and Marshall Teller, we’re delighted to welcome Dignan Porch to our doorstep with their fantastic new single ‘Out of the Picture’. The track storms out of the traps with building drums and a delightfully melodic keyboard line which drifts in and out throughout. The track is a much more pop, affair compared to some of the cuts on their excellent recent album. In fact It almost brings to mind a lo-fi New Order as girl/boy vocals harmonise the refrain “If you wait too long to tell her, you’ll be left out of the picture”.

As with previous Hand Cut singles, Out of the Piture will be released on lathe cut 7″ and limited to 25 copies. The 25 copies will be available from our shop at 1pm today! As always it’s worth pointing out that because these records are handcut, they will sound slightly lofi!

Cold Shapes

Every three weeks for the rest of 2015 we will be putting out a new 7" single from some of our favourite bands (both new and old).

Another act submerged at depth within the triumphant Straight Outta B-Town revival, melancholy melodies shine through on Things Betwixt, our 5th addition to the HCRC and, bafflingly, only our first collaboration with Dan Taylor aka Sulky Boy.

In his own words, you’re listening to the sound of 'hormones, moving house and the destructive power of randy, angry teenagers’. A not too distant direction from tracks that’ve recently made their way out on Beech Coma and Dan’s own Echochamp collective, then.

Produced by Paeris Giles (of Paeris Giles fame) and given a once over more recently by Kristian Smith, Things Betwixt will be released on lathe cut 7” and limited to 25 copies. They’ll be available from our shop at 1pm today!

When we first started the label, we did so with a bullish focus on all things South West. Basically if you didn’t live in Devon, Dorset, Cornwall or Somerset your name wasn’t down and you weren’t coming in. It didn’t last too long (the opening riff of Ride the Waves was enough to extend our gaze) but we like to think we’ve maintained a position as champions of the South West. 

The sad reality exists that if you live in this part of the world you don’t get quite the same opportunities or encouragement that you might do if you were in London or Brighton. That brings us on nicely to Dog - a three piece from a Devon town I hold very close to my heart - Totnes. As well as being home to what is probably my favourite record shop (Drift incase you were wondering) it also has a thriving community of people passionate about art, music, sustainability and lots of other things that make for a happy and fulfilling life. 

With this in mind we’re not sure how Dog have made such a melancholic pop song (which we’re totally in love with by the way). Jovial organ plays against Sean Harper’s insistence that “misery plateaus” with Malkmus’esque licks dropping in and out before the song builds to an irresistible crescendo. If Dog were based in Brighton, the Woff would be at the front of their shows shouting the words, they’d be inundated with gig offers and would have London’s liggers hot on their tail. Thankfully being in Totnes should allow space to grow as a band and we’re very excited to see where they go next (they’ve only just left school!).

As the summer starts to fly by at an alarming rate, today we bring you a bittersweet slice of scuzz pop from Sheffield newcomers Long Limbs. They released their debut single Amitriptyline back in March on Delicious Clam - the label and DIY colletive started by our brethren in Best Friends.


In a similar mold to many of our favourite two pieces, Long Limbs have nailed the nack of boiling a song down to its most simple and enjoyable parts. The reoccurring refrain of “I don’t know what to do, when I’m not with you” carries the song through to an excellent conclusion with gang vocals-a-plenty. Truly a summer anthem for the disenchanted youth.

As with previous Hand Cut singles, Past Tense will be released on lathe cut 7″ and limited to 25 copies. The 25 copies will be available from our shop at 1pm today! As always it’s worth pointing out that because these records are handcut, they will sound slightly lofi! Back in 2014 we put out a series of flexizines (a 7" flexidisc record accompanied by a 20 page zine) from the likes of Fear of Men, The Death of Pop and White Sands. We're delighted to say we're bringing the format back whilst also welcoming The Orielles to the family!

Hailing from Halifax, the Orielles formed after sisters Esme and Sid Hand-Halford met Henry Wade at a house party. Learning to play their instruments as they went along, the band have spent the past couple of years honing their craft with a string of singles and appearances at the likes of Live at Leeds, Festival no. 6, swn and Dot to Dot.

We're delighted to be releasing their new EP Jobin, three tracks of infectious surf pop influenced by the band's love of riot grrrl and all things C.A. The EP opens with lead track 'Jobin' - a barnstorming amalgamation of whoops and sweet summer melodies and the rest of the EP follows in a similarly seasonal fashion.

The EP is set to be released on 1st April on ltd edition flexizine; a 7" flexidisc featuring lead track Jobin, a 20 page colouring book zine illustrated by the awesome Alex Gamsu Jenkins and a download code for the full 3 track EP.
