Processing his undergraduate graduation and the anxieties attached to his impending law school tenure, es. hampton sat on his bathroom floor and poured his thoughts into the void of his mobile notes app—cluttered with to-do lists and discarded school notes. Inspired by the prose of Nikki Giovanni and Langston Hughes, the language of Toni Morrison, the stories of James Baldwin, and the sound of Brandy, James Fauntleroy, and Daughter, es. hampton began laying the foundation for an artistic endeavor that would fuel him for the years to come.

Based in Washington, D.C., the singer-songwriter uses his music to explore love, grief, time, and self-actualization. His catalog—products of procrastination (2020), …so stuck (2021), and love letters (2023)—traverses R&B and alternative genres while showcasing his soothing vocal tone, heart-wrenching lyrics, and honest vulnerability.
