Throughout his long-running career, the American DJ and producer has released four albums and released on labels such as R&amp;S and Strictly Rhythm, the latter providing a home for 1995's acid smasher 'Higher State Of Consciousness'.

"In this age of an ever-increasing demand for fast, easy thrills rewarding a shorter and shorter attention span I feel very happy there are still artists who have the talent/patience to create lengthy fulfilling pieces of music as well as exceptional people willing to devote time to listen to those creations.

In the past year I've found a wealth of amazing talent in the DIY ambient and experimental scene at SoundCloud. This mix is my way of showing respect for the whole community sharing, supporting and commenting on it's inspiring compositions and production methods. I've compiled a collection of tracks that showcase some of the styles of ambient/experimental music I've most enjoyed in the past year. Of course the tracklist could go on and on but in a guest mix you've got to draw the line somewhere...

The mix is a consciousness shifting journey through a colorful landscape of both meditative and heightening sounds - with a touch of destruction in it as well. I've also merged some field recordings and a few samples at points where I felt they reflected the mood these tracks evoked in me. Headphones are strongly recommended for a full aural experience.

I hope you find the time to dive deep with these exquisite sounds and feel them alter your mind state as they have altered mine, taking a dip into the vast possibilities of existence. As promised we are back with an excellent mix to keep some interest in the slowest part of the year. Fellow Subsekt dweller 'Alume' crafts out a superb mix. I cant recommend Subsekt enough to people. A lot of experienced guys on there ready to share their immense knowledge of the underground craft of techno production, and you get to come across a lot of great artists and works. 

I really enjoyed the transition from the frosty and hazy ambience to the warm bounce to the tripped out psychedelic ending. Really an excellent mix.  Do check him out out and his recent "Blood & Fire" on Nyame Records.

As Planetary Assault Systems, @Luke-Slater is an innovator of psychedelic mindfuck techno. Across a lengthy catalogue that stretches back into the 90s, the music’s bleepy, polyrhythmic loops are as recognizable as they are genre-defining. ‘Plantae’ is Slater’s first release as PAS on Ostgut Ton since ‘Arc Angel’ (2016) and covers the spectrum of PAS’s different strains while remaining grounded in Slater’s uncanny funk and knack for developing oblique melodies and rhythms over longer stretches. Deepness and hypnosis come as much through duration as sound design.

For Slater, ‘Plantae’ is made for Berghain, where he is a long-standing resident. In his own words: “I’m sure it’s no surprise that when it comes to putting together a release on Ostgut Ton, PAS takes on its more mind-altering, otherworldly quality by natural cause, quietly reflecting the dark sweaty nights and days at the club; at the point, the common neural coupling, of us all together. PAS has been part of Berghain and Berghain part of PAS for a long time. All of these tracks needed to pass the Berghain test in my sets first stop.”

Following a string of releases via his own bbbbbb recors, along with bodies of work on трип Recordings, February 2019 saw Bjarki debut on !K7 Records with the ‘Happy Earthday’ album. With the album considered to be the Icelandic producers first full debut LP, ‘Happy Earthday’ offered a conceptual collection of music which Bjarki thought he would never release. Influenced by his home country of Iceland as well as the planet’s environmental issues, the album received support across the board from the likes of The Quietus, DJ Mag, Pitchfork, XLR8R, FACT and CLASH Music, along with being crowned Mixmag’s ‘Album of The Month’.

“Releasing this album is also a kind of farewell to music I made in a certain period in my life. It’s like I’m saying farewell to a grown-up child which is now ready to leave.” – Bjarki

As part of the limited edition 200 copy box set version of ‘Happy Earthday’, a secret album of original music was available to hear unbeknown to listeners. Now receiving a full release this December on double vinyl and digital platforms, Bjarki will release his second full album of the year via !K7 Records. ‘Psychotic_Window’ is a further extension of the experimental artists creative vision whilst continuing to address environmental themes and nature.

Combining influences from techno, breakbeat, IDM, electronica and more across all of his studio output, ‘Psychotic_Window’ is Bjarki’s final signoff for 2019. The new 14-track album follows in line with one of his most significant years to date, highlighted by performances at major events including Dekmantel and DGTL Festival, along with pioneering eclectic new sounds via his bbbbbb recors label.

“After ‘Happy Earthday’, people have been asking me about the secret tracks and it made me feel that they deserve a proper release. Each track means a lot to me as I made them during a depressing phase in my life; I was pretty broke, working many shit jobs and also just being super lazy, uninterested in leaving my apartment. Before I started touring, I had these periods where I could write so much music without thinking, pouring my heart out to comfort my thoughts and feelings without trying. I doubt that this kind of window will come back to me anytime soon, my way of music making has changed a lot after going on tour. At that time, I was listening to a lot of Coil, Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti. I think every struggling artist goes through these phases of being sleep deprived, staying up and making music all night. This was my psychotic window.” - Bjarki
