We are very proud to welcome Djrum to the Samurai labels with a single that marks a more musically open minded approach Red Seal will take from 2015 onwards. Djrum is an artist we have admired for some time and embodies the individual approach we respect in electronic music artists. An incredible DJ as well as producer, Djrum exists in his own unique musical universe with loose ties to many genre's, but giving the majority of his music a classification often proves futile. Such is the case with his Samurai debut. A pair of sprawling, epic musical moodswings, both sides enchant with their multi layered glide.

Building on the promise of his standout Vacuum EP, Brendon Moeller returns to Samurai Music, bringing his expertly honed dub antics up to 170 BPM for a full-length, immersive journey. Renowned as a versatile artist, Moeller marries cavernous sound design with decades of machine soul, stretching across a spectrum of tempos and styles. His venture into D&B feels both intuitive and strikingly original—a seamless fit for Samurai, where sound palettes, tension, and rhythms constantly forge fresh, forward-thinking terrain in modern club music.

Known for his prolific output, Moeller presented Samurai with an extensive collection of tracks crafted in this latest phase of his production. We’re delighted to welcome these two Australia based producers to the Samurai family with Onyx - a 4 track EP that delivers a blend of tight edits, chest heavy bass, and intricate sound design. Pugilist & Tamen combine nostalgia with forward-thinking production and Onyx traverses a rich landscape of jungle-rooted moods. 

Onyx introduces a step forward in the duo's production, utilising sculpted distortion as an instrument. Seen on 3 of the 4 tunes, this approach adds a temperative tension as the tunes give the impression they have gone too far into the distortion no go zone but ultimately finding a balance that compliments and enhances the tunes overall sound pallette perfectly.

Raw and direct with rich layers and honed grooves that ultimately mark the tunes as memorable, Onyx is on a new level for Pugilist & Tamen.

‘Waters Rising’ is a collaboration with vocalist Lola Empire and was originally written around a piano sketch that was sent back and forth between the two artists until it became the fully realised song you hear now.  

"I really hadn't expected love to be a theme in the album, but I was chatting with Lola and she told me how she'd fallen in love. I sent her the initial sketch for this and told her i didn't think love was an appropriate subject for it. but she came out with this. 
'love is dark' she said."
