San Francisco’s 219 Boys have been featured on “This is Night Bass” and now they’ve landed their first EP on Night Bass. “Unmade” is a collection of various influences artfully melded into their own unique sound. The EP kicks off with “FYOF” a dark G-House bouncer with a cheeky sample. “Unmake” takes it further into heavier and darker territory while “Risk” leans into a more tech house sound. Recruiting Calgary duo Smalltown DJs, and Victoria’s Neon Steve, the Canadian trifecta have created two helpings of pure four on the floor house music. First up, the producers join forces on “Let The Record Work,” a twangy head-bopper equipped with punchy rhythms and record scratches. Then on “AFN” the synth is our guide on the frantically paced single that is equally hypnotic as it is riot-inducing.

The Hood” came from a concept I had for a track that was equally cinematic and club ready. I wanted the intro of “The Hood” to put the listener in a police chase scene from a movie - like the intro to ‘Straight Outta Compton’. Beyond that I wanted the song to capture elements of modern G-House and Bass House as well as mid 2000’s Electro - a representation of both the music that populates the scene today and the music that got me into the scene 10 years ago. I’m excited to push boundaries on this release and for the world to hear “The Hood”!

My objective with Babylon was to create a world where Rap and Electronic coexisted without tipping the scales too far in either direction. I was hyped on the idea of producing an entire song AROUND Denzel's story instead of having him tell his story around my beat, so I ended up producing 99% of the song after Zel had already recorded his parts. It's an approach to rap music that I'd never seen done before, so I wanted to know what that sounded like. Working in the room with Denzel was fast... he's a real rapper. Most of the time we spent kicking it just playing shit back and forth. He wrote and recorded his parts for Babylon in minutes.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.

Whether it’s producing, remixing or dj’ing, Sander Kleinenberg has been building credibility on all fronts for over twenty-five years. He has established himself as an advocate of progress and most of all, a pivotal player on the frontier of electronic music. Starting out dj-ing at merely fifteen years old, a young Sander Kleinenberg was inspired by club music and hip-hop culture in the late eighties. This cultural shift inspired his own musical path, which in turn led to him traveling the world and spreading his sound along the way. Many awards, accolades and having performed all corners of the world later you could say it was destiny. 

Often mentioned when talking about the first wave of superstar dj’s from the progressive house wave around the turn of the century, Sander brought a mixture genres and styles to the table like never heard before. Quirky disco, psychedelia, Detroit techno, straight up soul and industrialism contributed greatly to the ever-evolving musical landscape in the ‘90s and 00’s. Sander’s eclectic persona and capability to always be two steps ahead of the rest have resulted in him being an award-winning dj and producer. As time passes by and his career unfolds, the pattern within it becomes more and more visible, Sander is a man on the move, always searching for the “perfect mix” in his own words. Sander’s relentless passion for perfection has kept him away from classification, putting hours upon hours into the enrichment of dj- and producer identity. Constantly twisting and shaping sounds. It’s this search for relevance in electronic musics development that keeps him re-inventing himself in every decade that has gone by since those early days. 

Today Sander looks back at his journey and thought it was time to make up the balance of all the corners of progress his career has taken him. You could call it a full circle type moment settling for nothing else but quality. If you are looking for someone who has searched high and low and has taken that into his current musical identity then Sander is your man. Like a fine wine matured into something wonderful..
