Living long enough, you'll eventually have those that passed on that you either have good memories of them or bad.  This song is for those happy memories, for those people who made our life worthwhile while living and continues to bring smiles to our thoughts many years after they left this earth.

The first lyrics (see below) was about a boy wanting to live up to his father.  But If I were to re-write lyrics, I would write about a town who remembered such a person.  Who even after suffering setbacks and hardships in life, still stood out as someone who would brighten your day.

We distract ourselves with meaningless noise, money and a selfish desire for 'me'. We don't realise how the skeletons in our closets, the hate and separation we breed and nurture, slowly erodes togetherness, fairness and community, while at the same time builds up to a big explosion, which probably none of us will get out of alive.

Mike Benoit is a wonderful sound artist who reached out to me this year with the idea of taking some raw improv piano playing and reworking them to produce original tracks. This appealed to me because 1 - I ain't the greatest piano player so this was flattering and 2 - I spend so much of my time reworking other peoples sounds it would be awesome to be on the receiving end for a change : ) .The album features 4 tracks, each one originally recorded on a different piano then given the treatments by Mike.

When I sent Mike Fox the acoustic track never did I think in my wildest dreams that he would produce such a mix  of sounds.
The brief was a modern pop track in the realm of Louis Capaldi / Ed Sheeran that sort of thing.
And what I got was an amazing piece of nostalgia 70s Chic  v 80s club which I actually bloody loved.
Just shows that it’s best to trust the process and let these outstanding musicians/producers do their thing . 
It’s such fun collaborating with different people and listening to their different take on things.
Mike is an excellent songwriter himself and you can always pick the earworm in his work.
Big thanks to Mike he was a pleasure to work with and a real gentleman.
I hope you enjoy it guys as much as we did making it.

For this tune, I used three minor Pentatonic scales, D minor, A minor, and E minor. The time signature is  12/8 and the instruments are a Fender Fretless Jazz bass, a PRS guitar with a Fishman midi pickup, a Yamaha piano, and my  Sonor Drums that I turn into electronic Drums myself. I wrote this song for my son who went to Australia a while back. Before he went we went camping and surfing over to the west of Ireland to the Maharees, beautiful place. We camped in the dunes, lit a camp fire, cooked burgers, drank beer and later we lay on our backs watching the stars. The sun when it sets in the West of Ireland is Golden as it sinks into the sea. I am comparing the Golden Sun to my Golden son.

I have never understood racism. I am not sure how someone can deeply despise someone else whom they have never met.
I had a conversation the other day with someone lamenting that ":these immigrants" don't want to be American.They want to keep their language and their traditions and never "blend in".We should not allow these foreign cultures to be here. so I asked him if we should ban Oktoberfest,st Patricks day as well. I got back a blank stare and he said "well those are American.

There will always be good and bad, no one race has a monopoly on either and if we use common sense we should seek out the good in anyone who is and nurture it and embrace it and make things better.
