having emerged from the claustrophobia of COVID-induced lockdowns with a new appetite for both club sounds, Katie began to experience the collective joy of some of Rotterdam’s more intimate and expressive dance floors, both in front of and inside the booth.

Katie also founded @ito.collective an arts and cultural organisation focusing on the Asian diaspora in the Netherlands, and has been sharing cosmic sounds with fellow sleepyheads on her monthly Operator Radio show “Not an Early Bird”.

in her own words: Gentle and powerful, it may sound contradictory but somehow sounds like a very desirable combination to me. Taking inspiration from the phrase “gentle and powerful”, I gathered rhythmic sounds from all over the world.

African sounds aroused great enthusiasm in France at the start of the eighties making Paris a hub of creation. This Strictly Vinyl Mixtape brings together twelve representative titles from this era. Some pieces are recorded in the same studios with the same musicians: Congolese, Cameroonian, Gabonese, Senegalese, Cape Verdean… You will hear underground fusion or mainstream African pop music created by West African artists who were drawn to Parisian studio technology.
