Here feelings are translated in music , a synthed scream against dehumanization of Gaza people , made by conscious sounds and grooves - wrapped in dub siren n cosmic sonars.

today we receive Tokyo DJ @kate-takada bringing waves out from Rotterdam, where she’s based <3

having emerged from the claustrophobia of COVID-induced lockdowns with a new appetite for both club sounds, Katie began to experience the collective joy of some of Rotterdam’s more intimate and expressive dance floors, both in front of and inside the booth.

Katie also founded @ito.collective an arts and cultural organisation focusing on the Asian diaspora in the Netherlands, and has been sharing cosmic sounds with fellow sleepyheads on her monthly Operator Radio show “Not an Early Bird”.

in her own words: Gentle and powerful, it may sound contradictory but somehow sounds like a very desirable combination to me. Taking inspiration from the phrase “gentle and powerful”, I gathered rhythmic sounds from all over the world.

Tommy Stewart is an important underground figure for the funk music. Born in 1939…he was drawn to music at early age thanks to his mother. In 1964 he played with Fred Wesley and members of the 55th Army band. He wrote and composed for TV and even played with Blue Note recording artist Duke Pearson. In 1973 he arranged and composed a musical score called “The Burning of Atlanta” and later on, worked as arranger, producer, performer and writer for the likes of Clarence Carter, Candi Staton, Johnny Taylor, Major Lance, Eddie Kendricks, Luther Ingram, Millie Jackson, Flip Wilson, Roy Gaines, Tamiko Jones and many others. His self titled LP and sophomore follow up as Stevo, has Stewart often labeled as an innovator of disco-funk….but on my books he is a funk master…enjoy the show

This edition of our mix series features Seattle local, Suss Out. They reached out to us a while ago about creating a mix for us. Little did we know it would be chock full of some of our favorite artists and sounds from the 90s and beyond. The mix is a superb deep dive into the world of eclectic, psychedelic dance music.

Suss Out has tripped out clubs, raves, runways, gyms, art walks, and ice cream shops since 2016. Maybe you writhed in their underwear party residency at Kremwerk in 2023, or caught them closing out Scantily Clad on NYE in Vancouver, BC. You can meet this month at their Bay Area debut for Pride! Crawl with them now through the muck of your mind: on this journey, you’ll probe inside as much as you will pine. This mix is a hungry, sweaty salute to the '90s, giving mouthfuls for fans of Meat Beat Manifesto, Underworld, and plain raw angst to gnaw on. Features the vocal stylings of Chloë Sevigny and Bill Clinton.

Innerflight Broadcast 174: Suss Out

Hendrik Vogel *1982 is a Karlsruhe based scenographer, musician and media artist. In his audiovisual and spatial works, he explores the medium for its narrative qualities by emphasizing the profound influence of the creative process. The latest works are an invitation to reflect on our historical and sociological connections with media and the evolving relationship between society and technology. In his self released album (Sunday,2022) he scores the swiping mood mode (probably during Cv-19), by setting different moods from “ghostings” to “scrolling”,  ending with “you reached doom” which is a reminisence to the behavior of doomscrolling. His audiobook „Das schwarze Rechteck“ (2022) is a text-collage from the German romantic till today. An audio piece about overtaxing, the meaning of the fragment today and the origin of the rabbithole. „Postoned“ released on ENBEEZEE Records explores the act of daydreaming. With „The sound is the message“ (UNESCO City of Media Arts, 2022) he created a room installation in which the evolution of the sounds for communication and its amount today is discussed. And with “Entr’acte” he just published a composition for the silent movie bei René Clair from 1924. This summer „Screentime“ a brand new collaborative work with media artist Kilian Kretschmer which thematises self-reflection through digital media and ask how digital technologies influence our self-image. The video in collaboration with the Ballett of the Staatstheater will be part of the UNESCO City of Media Arts exhibition “Media art is here” from 15.08. till 15.09.2024. Hendrik studied scenography and media art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) in Karlsruhe, worked as a research assistant for architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and as a workshop lecturer for sound at the ZKM. From 2013 - 2018 he was responsible for the club management and booking of the Fettschmelze together with Jago DJ and laid the basis of many beautiful days and nights which were very inspiring and a great enrichment of the regional scene. He is still hosting Holidays on Mars a monthly radioshow via Querfunk Karlsruhe. We are happy to welcome him.
