@tunnelvisions1 return to their home label @Atomnation for a fourth fantastic release in the last three years. This six track excursion builds on the pair's warm, richly melodic and always hypnotic style with fantastically colourful results.

Tunnelvisions is Emiel van den Dungen and Raynor de Groot. Both artists keep busy with their own solo projects (Milio and Coloray respectively) but continue to find fascinating middle ground when they come together in the studio. 2020 saw them step out on Moscoman's Disco Halal and Solomun's Diynamic, while they have also been remixed to great effect with influential DJs like Dixon and Tale Of Us playing the results. Now, though, they are back on Atomnation with another superb collection of cuts.

The undulating 'Acid Neverland' opens up with its succulent and supple drums overlaid with heavenly chords and glowing pads. Coloray's vocals are then layered in to bring some drive and attitude to this most compelling of tracks. 'King Cobra' is a dubby delight. Its airy hi hats, bulbous bass notes and tripped out melodic motifs all sinking you into a trance.

There is more angst and energy to the malfunctioning melodies and steel-plated drums of 'Mirrored Identities' while 'Waiting For The Morning' is a perfect dreamscape. It's a super widescreen track with deft pads coming in and out of focus, glistening melodies reflecting light and pulsing drums locking you in. 'Private XS' flips the vibe with more drawn out and sinewy synths gurgling and bubbling away as they ride up and down the scale like a slow motion cosmic explosion. Last but not least, 'End of Time' has the most pop hooks and catchy riffs of the lot. They dart about the mix as smeared pads and crunchy, punchy drums encourage you to cut loose.

This is another masterfully cohesive collection of colourful dance floor cuts that take in pop, techno and synth music and skew them the unique lens of Tunnelvisions.

Tunnelvisions - Acid Neverland

For ATL061 we set our navigation to the picturesque province of Pisa and welcome Tuscan titan Undercatt to the label. Undercatt is renowned for his exciting club sound that spans electronica to dark deep melodic techno.

'Arcade' is a real DJ track, perfect for when you want to get the audience locked into a groove. The deep bass and chord pattern create the foundation for Undercatt to overlay his renowned lush synths and floating melodies, before playing with the beats to add micro dynamics which increase the intensity by increments for maximum impact.

Skynet' takes the EP deeper and darker. The ferocious thudding beats will give any sub-bass system a thorough test and make the floor shudder. Whirring buzzing sounds and staccato pads add to the tension before the drop hits ... slightly delayed, making the release even more dramatic. A guaranteed crowd pleaser.

'Lunatico' sees Undercatt stretch out artistically to highlight his skills in composition, using sumptuous melodies to create a track flowing with emotion, yet still driving and full of momentum for the club. An essential playlist mainstay for extended DJ sets, taking listeners on a journey filled with elation, surprises and those special moments that stay with you forever. A fitting way to close the EP, leaving you wanting more as the beats ride out.

Astral Records continues a strong start to the year by welcoming Vicius (BR) to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Brazil, Vicius (BR) first emerged in 2020, producing a mesmerizing and emotional brand of melodic house and techno. A debut on Prisma Music's Evolution III collection would set the course for an impressive stretch of releases via Melodic Room, Steyoyoke Black and his own Odissea Records imprint. Support from some of the scene's key figures such as Ae:ther, Binaryh, D-Nox and Hêik would follow, making the São Paulo resident a bright talent to watch going forward. With 2023 wrapping up with the release of his 'Fever Dream' single, Vinius (BR) now adds Astral Records to his resume, opening the year with a three-track showcase entitled 'Ritual'. Landing in impressive fashion, title track 'Ritual' creates a smooth yet electric energy from the outset. Punchy kick drums and a hyperactive groove unite for a powerful low end, while gated vocals and uplifting chord stabs add nicely to its prophetic nature. The narrative evolves as the main break takes shape, with the vocal gates melting down into a gorgeous melodic theme and hopeful pads, perfectly setting the stage for a tasteful build and ethereal finale. Sitting as one of Vicius' most emotional tracks to date is selection two 'When I Leave'. Deep and spacious, its dynamic groove commands attention, moving through chunky contours and rhythmic pulses, while heavenly vocals and flickering percussion add further colour leading into the main break. Undeniably poignant, the interlude allows the vocal to breathe, sitting against a backdrop of heartfelt themes, before ultimately ushering in an end of night final act. The release concludes with 'First Light' which is an apt barometer of where Vicius' headspace is at. Once again providing a strong dancefloor presence, the Brazilian layers wavy arps and dark electronics over a warm pulsating groove and precise percussive arrangements. Bringing a greater emotional mood is the main break, highlighted by warm bass swells and haunting harmonics, before sinister stabs spark a cosmic finale to round out the EP in style.
