Saqib - Oscillator One

So Cold So Sweet was produced in March 2020 when the lockdown started in NYC. It is the first of many tracks that became a lockdown album... exploring new sounds in complete isolation from the rest of the world. With no idea if we would ever even see each other again. 

So Cold So Sweet is based on an American jazz standard, 'St. James Infirmary Blues', which is of uncertain origin. It has many different versions. Loosely, it tells the tale of a soldier who has returned from war to find his lover in the infirmary - so cold, so sweet, and so pale... and then you have to iisten to know the rest of the story

From the opening track of this mix, you know you're in for a ride. ’Dance Dance’ is an edit of an old Bollywood classic SAQIB made with Haider Uppal. Its the lush groove sets the tone for a 90-minute dance of deep-fried disco that flirts with main room prog in the most analogue way.  

Hailing from Pakistan, the now Brooklyn-based DJ is an ardent student of music, an arc that includes playing heavy metal bands in Lahore on the way to studying electronic music production in New York (Rutgers University, Point Blank Music).  

Today, he's signed to labels including Flying Circus and Sol Selectas alongside DJ bookings at Electric Zoo, Cityfox and The Brooklyn Mirage. Upcoming shows include supporting BLOND:ISH at Industry City in NY, which follows his recent Nino Torres remix on his own Beat in Time imprint. All signs, of course, that arc is still rising. 

Featuring tracks from Maceo Plex, Nick Curly, Piemont, Rigopolar, and more, this is a lively adventure into SAQIB’s splendid yet slightly psychedelic world.

Inspired by one of the most powerful, sublime and inspiring moments in my short life. In 2012 I went on my first ever deep dive with Ricky Rosé ( <100 feet deep) when I was living in Grenada. When I reached the bottom I crossed my legs and sat down for a moment, and I looked up and saw thousands upon thousands of fish swimming in swarms of all shapes, sizes and colors, each deflecting a small beam of light at a different angle off its shiny scales. I saw huge rays of sunlight that were 30-40 feet wide penetrating from the surface down all the way to the seafloor at the craziest angles. I watched bubbles escape my mask and literally travel a hundred feet to the surface… I was overcome by this very powerful and beautiful feeling, goosebumps, shivers, and love and something sublime and awesome and beyond the drawers of language to communicate… And Don't Panic came out of nowhere into my head… "we live in a beautiful world" … mind you there is no sound when you dive other than the sound of your own breathing (darth-vader-esque)… It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever experienced or seen or been lucky enough to witness. I don't know where it came from, but it landed in my head and in my ears. And that was where I knew I had to remix this track. I actually worked it out last year but doomed it to the dust because I hated one tiny thing about it… last night my friend brought up coldplay and I found myself hearing it again and knowing EXACTLY WHAT TO DO! Saqib Malik : Music es un DJ / productor paquistaní con sede en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Su sed insaciable de sonido lo ha llevado a recopilar continuamente música electrónica de todo tipo. Saqib pincha solo la música que ama absolutamente, sin importar el género, y tiene una colección que va desde techno hasta downtempo y todo lo que está en medio. Un autoproclamado estudiante de la pista de baile, tiene un profundo respeto por la energía que hace que la gente se mueva.
Su formación musical es igualmente occidental y oriental, e informa sus producciones, así como sus selecciones de DJ. Cuando era adolescente y tenía poco más de veinte años, Saqib tocó la guitarra y el bajo en una banda de death metal en Pakistán. Pero también ha estudiado sitar y música clásica oriental. Comenzó a hacer música a la edad de doce años y ha estado obsesionado con eso desde entonces. Para seguir cultivando su capacidad de producción, estudió producción musical, teoría y diseño de sonido en Rutgers University, School of Audio Engineering (NYC) y The Point Blank Music Academy. Su música ha sido lanzada en Sol Selectas, Cenote Records, Flying Circus, Magician on Duty, Resopal Schallware (Vinyl), L'Enfant Terribles, For The People, Intimate Project Music, 3 Bridge Records y Secret Jams.
La carrera de Saqib en la escena de la música dance de la ciudad de Nueva York comenzó en 2013 en el club Output en Brooklyn, donde convenció a un guardia de seguridad para que diera sus demos en un dispositivo USB al dúo Blond:ish. Esto eventualmente llevó a una pista en la compilación número 1 de Flying Circus en Ibiza, invitaciones para jugar sus primeras fiestas en Nueva York y una residencia de dos años en Members Only.
Actualmente, Saqib ha jugado en toda la ciudad de Nueva York y ha hecho Warm up para Dixon, Francesca Lombardo, M.A.N.D.Y., Behrouz, Butane y otros artistas notables. En 2017, se unió a la familia ebb + flow como artista y miembro del equipo.
