The Sisters of All Nations have been making waves recently. A hand drumming group that formed at Western University, in London, ON, the girls, roughly a group of 15, are empowering themselves through cultural knowledge.
They've opened for London's hip hop star Shad, public talks by Wab Kinew and Susan Aglukark, as well as memorials and awareness events.
Hand drumming is important to a variety of indigenous cultures around the world. While I could not include the Anishnaabe drum origin story I was told out of respect for the elder who told it to me, here is a bit of background on the hand drum and it's meaning.
