Born in 1977 in Teramo, a town in the Abbruzzo region of central Italy, Enrico Melozzi developed a passion for music and athletics from an early age. 
After suffering a serious accident at the age of 11, for which he underwent a prolonged period of hospitalisation, Melozzi was forced to abandon his sporting aspirations and devoted himself entirely to studying music, eventually graduating from the conservatoire with top grades in cello. A great admirer of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart[1], Melozzi also studied composition and counterpoint[2], developing his personal technique for composing film music under the inspirational influence of two of Italy’s greatest film music composers, Franco Piersanti and Ennio Morricone. 
In 1999 Melozzi became assistant to the German composer and clarinettist Michael Riessler, with whom he collaborated on a number of projects first as copyist and later as arranger and producer. These include Sirens, Concert Trouquè, Hamlet and the soundtrack for the Edgar Reitz film Die Andere Heimat. The collaboration with Riessler opened up a number of opportunities in the contemporary music scene, developing an extended network of connections that generated collaborations with the likes of Sabine Meyer, Vinko Globokar, Jean Pierre Drouet, Michel Portal, Terry Bozzio, Markus and Simon Stockhausen and Paolo Fresu – all of whom worked regularly on projects with Michael Riessler. In 2001 Melozzi met Federico Savina, a professor at Rome’s Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, with whom he deepened his knowledge of the techniques used in applied music[2].
After completing his studies, in 2002 Melozzi moved to Rome where he worked briefly as a sideman in recording studios and as a multi-instrumental accompanist for various stage productions and comic narrative theatre. 
Following his conducting debut at the Auditorium Parco della Musica with his own Oliver Twist project, Melozzi has continued to compose soundtracks for short films, feature films and stage productions and has collaborated with a range of directors [2]. In 2004 he co-founded the Lisma Project electro duo with DJ Stefano De Angelis and in 2007 he launched the Rome-based independent record label Cinik Records[3], with which he has made some thirty releases in just a few years.
For the official reopening of the Teramo duomo in October 2007, Melozzi composed his Il Nuovo Tempio sinfonia concertante, written two months before in just 11 days. The work attracted the attention of Piero Ostali of the Sonzogno music publishers, who promptly invited Melozzi to be a part of his team. 
Inspired by the figure of his grandfather Gabriele, a partisan fighter in WWII killed by Fascists in the Bosco Martese reprisal, at around this time Melozzi also founded his Nuove Armonie movement with the intent of furthering the cause of legality and merit within Italy’s creative panorama.
