Containing five synthesiser-led pieces, ‘Loon’ was recorded in autumn 2014 across five days at Nils’s Durton Studio in Berlin, and continues on from the ambient sounds of ‘Stare’ but with the addition of more percussive elements and dub influences. For this new EP the duo wired an Oberheim 4 Voice and a Korg PS3100 to the mixing desk and performed live takes on both instruments. With all four hands on its pots, all mixes were recorded straight onto 2-track ½-inch tape.

Like on ‘Stare’, their first collaborative affair in 2012, they simply followed what was laying in front of them, and this time they were driven by some new synths, a kick drum and tape effects. Indulging in dub, the tracks where all performed rather than engineered, with Ólafur riding a few elements on faders and Nils bringing effects in and out. After running several mixes, they went for the five strongest moments from this session. The release was announced on a joint website www.arnaldsfrahm.com together with the launch of an intimate 45-minute studio film titled ‘Trance Frendz’, featuring another seven improvisations.

Two countries, two cities, one river. The Oder River not only separates the German city of Frankfurt from Slubice in Poland, it separates two different worlds from each other. Whether rich or poor, people try to seek their fortune there – but often only find their limits.

Hans-Christian-Schmid („Nach fünf im Urwald“, „23“, Crazy“), one of the most successful and exciting young German directors, made a moving film with an impressive ensemble, telling emotional, deeply human stories, subtle and moving, tough and yet full of poetry.

Notwist composed the music for this film, based on a pianoloop and minimal electronics, and recorded it with participation of Sebastian Hess (cello) and Saam Schlamminger (zarb). For the twelve-inch release the piece was remixed by Martin Gretschmann aka Console.

Born in Hawaii and raised in both Southern California and Israel, singer/songwriter Sara Lov started playing music alongside pianist Dustin O'Halloran when they formed the dream pop duo Devics in 1993. The group later moved to Italy and signed with Bella Union, a U.K.-based record label run by Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde. Devics released 5 full length albums, several ep’s and toured extensively all over the world. In 2008, Lov began a solo career and teamed with producer and collaborator Zac Rae ( Death Cab for Cutie, Fiona Apple). Together they recorded 3 full length albums Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming in 2009 and I Already Love You (an album of cover songs) in 2011. Lov spent 2009/2010 touring in Europe and the US, her songs appeared in TV shows Bones, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, United States of Tara, Looking and Rectify. In 2015, Sara Lov & Zac Rae finished recording Some Kind of Champion an album of originals by Sara Lov and collaborators Dustin O'Halloran, Hauschka, Scott Leahy, Zac Rae & Jonathan Price. The album was released in late 2015 and was funded by her fans via Pledgemusic. Sara worked with various directors to create videos for 7 songs on the album. She recently went back to the studio with Dustin O'Halloran to record vocals for the Amazon series Transparent. Her voice is featured throughout the 4th Season as part of the musical score. Currently, Sara is writing new songs for her 4th solo album.
