We're excited to wrap up 2017 with this new fundraiser compilation titled, 'I Can't See My House'. The LP consists of twelve excellent tracks, and on top of that, there are some beautiful limited-edition 12-inch vinyl records to accompany it. These are lathe-cut records, meticulously crafted by Greg Boro at beevinyl®.

All proceeds from this release are going to The Union of Concerned Scientists. Many thanks to Eli Good AKA Man of the Downtrodden for the suggestion. We have done our last few compilations as charity fundraisers for Amazon Watch, Oxfam and Cancer Research UK.

The Union of Concerned Scientists is an organisation that works hard to try and find pragmatic solutions to many of the global issues we face today. From combating global warming and developing sustainable ways to feed, power, and transport ourselves, to fighting misinformation, advancing racial equity, and reducing the threat of nuclear war.

We decided that we would like to try and raise funds for such an organisation after the Trump administration announced plans to pull out of the Paris Agreement earlier this year. We believe that global warming is a very real and very concerning problem, as are some of the other issues mentioned above.

The image used on the cover of this release is a photograph taken from Mars. You can see Earth as a pale blue dot in the distance. You probably can’t see your house though. It isn't as far away as the famous shot taken from the Voyager 1 probe back in 1990. That was taken from roughly 3.7 billion miles away, and Mars is currently about 36 million miles away, though this NASA shot is still very awe-inspiring

Last but not least, we want to say a big thank you to all the artists involved with this project. Your contributions are truly appreciated, and we respect you for helping a good cause. Depatterning is the work of Canadian born Gary Mentanko, now living in Wexford, Eire.  Gary will be familiar to those who know his own label Wist Rec, which has been releasing ‘handy music handmade’ from the likes of The Humble Bee, Tape Loop Orchestra, and Loscil since 2009.  This is his first Depatterning project outside of Wist Rec. The title, The Community Pasture, comes from a land-management service provided in the Prairie Provinces of Canada started back in the 1930s, when Gary’s Ukrainian ancestors first arrived in the province of Saskatchewan. 

Side A is collection of 11 songs of pastoral hums and aural traditions with a decidedly synth-ethic featuring snippet of family voices and field recordings from the past and present.  On Side B, there is a 23 minute chat with Gary about the music, his inspirations and the wonder of the early electric age.

The latest long-player of devotional noir by Humboldt County romantic Brian Pyle aka Ensemble Economique was originally titled Music Saves Lives, in response to the misguided backlash directed at underground artists in the wake of the tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland. Since Pyle’s career threads through a decade and a half of Northern California’s independent experimental music community, the blow struck a uniquely deep and personal chord. As a way to process, he began recording at his coastal home studio in Manila, California, channeling inner states of mind, seeking something “more personal and intimate, the idea of love, and shining through.”

Radiate Through You delivers on its title, exuding a nuanced catharsis, alternately tempestuous and transcendent, forlorn but undefeated. Vaulted heavens of interwoven electronics ebb into hushed dirges of skeletal percussion and candlelit guitar. Roiling noise seethes, swells, and subsides as an ashen string arrangement rises in the mix, keening a somber, circular elegy, as if overtaken by memory on a long walk alone.

Two key guest appearances lend the album even more dynamism and drama: the first by Barcelona synthesist Alexander Molero on the questing, celestial opener, “Music Is Life,” the second by New Zealand psychic sisters Purple Pilgrims on the devastating finale, “Blue Hour.” Both showcase impressive shades of Pyle’s finesse as producer and muse, sparking his collaborators to new heights.

Whether taken as expressionist memorial, therapeutic song cycle, or something more ambiguous, Radiate Through You stands as a pensive, passionate statement by an enduring light of the West Coast canon, drawn from “a deep, special place of giant emotions, feelings.”

Senior figures at the Strategic Tape Reserve are thought to be very pleased upon the public dissemination of the organization's 25th music release: a shared cassette between long-time STR contributors, the California-based moduS ponY, and Cologne's VLK. Early on in the composition process the co-creators of the music on this cassette exchanged digital folders containing audio files – guitar melodies, baselines, synth drones, field samples and other miscellaneous sound items. These sound-seeds instigated the tracks which you can now hear – providing, if nothing else, a common framework linking the two halves of the release. When the white side of the cassette is facing outward from a standard tape player, listeners will experience moduS ponY's playful, multi-instrumentalist, genre-defying compositions. Turn over the cassette to the red side and now the stereo will play VLK's post-vaporous synth noise and mutated-sample sounds.
