Three years ago, I started this collaborative ‘Encounters project’ together with Elke Pannier. It came to an end at the close of 2023. Between these years, we’ve created various performances and showcases together.

Some of the tracks we made found their way onto my album ‘can i meet you nowhere?’. But others remained exclusive to the exhibitions—until now. Today, I’m releasing those pieces exclusively on SoundCloud for you to enjoy.

‘7/7’ is deeply personal, delving into my inner thoughts. The whispered vocals at the beginning symbolize the continuous stream of thoughts in my mind. It captures the essence of my sleepless nights, marked by ongoing restlessness and self-doubt. “I need to sleep to slow down.”

A village in a place (Mix 2025)

Fourth stop, second release—seamlessly following Esneux. For the intended journey, play the two back-to-back, without interruption.

Hotton II opens with a warm, gentle synth line; tiny blips and crackling details set a steady stride. Once the snare enters, the tempo locks in and the track lifts off. It’s a brief breather between departure and arrival.

Hotton II

Third stop, first single, and the darkest chapter of MIMESIS (part one). “Esneux” opens with a mysterious tone: a repeated, high moan. Gradually, the piece tilts toward the pulse of a club: voices and train recordings linger in the background as the bass enters and movement takes over. With percussive detail the piece swells; when the bass enters, everything tilts into a true club vibe. Tension builds into controlled chaos, ending with a distorted announcement: the arrival in Esneux.

Made like the rest of the EP: built from field recordings that thread through the entire piece and keep the experimental elements intimate. Warped jazz drum loops drive a danceable groove, dark synths wash the scene, and guitar adds a spell-like texture. “Esneux” balances raw actuality with a nocturnal pulse: intimate, physical, unmistakably en route.

Under his own name ‘sasja’, Belgian musician/producer Sasja Maekelberg blends analog synths, field recordings, and crackling beats into rich, impressionistic soundscapes. Add his distinctive voice and the result is haunting: a unique sound that feels cinematic, danceable and intimate.
