Svaha Sound System has evolved from stepping Sound Systems such as Jah Shaka, King Earthquake and Aba Shanti through the late 90's, mix in with that Drum and Bass, Jungle and Hip-Hop and Spiritual Hindu music and the foundation of Svaha Sound Systems sound is evident.

Having this deep education in the dance in addition to exposure to a wide variety of musical influences, a void in conscious music in the UK was highlighted, as only Roots Reggae was catering to this need. This gave birth to Svaha Sound System, combining Ancient Culture from Hinduism and Rastafarianism and pushing forward to a new dawn.

Music is a form of meditation and the same can be said of religion... So for me music is my religion.

I find my inspiration in music and it is ancient sounds and chanting, such as mantras which guide alot of my work.

The use of hindu mythology is an attempt to celebrate my heritage whilst pushing the idea of music as a vehicle for change and re-definition of old world traditions.

Svaha is the sanskrit word for 'so be it'... that sums up my music perfectly... it harks to the idea that you shouldnt over complicate it, just let it be.

The UK Roots scene is a spirited underground representation of Jamaican studio techniques as filtered through the cheap recording technology boom of the last two decades. In short it is generally a story of creative and intuitive use of studio equipment by often self educated recording engineers. Rej Forte has risen out of the UK scene as a master producer creating some of the most moving and lasting roots music ever produced in the UK.
Jah Rej’s productions do what real music truly should, transport the listener to a magical place. Using a range of vocalists and a dedicated group of session musicians he has refined his art. Rej's productions carry the weight and produce the magic.
The Jah Works label was set up by reggae obsessive Rej Forte in the depths of the Berkshire countryside in the late 1980’s. The label has gained a reputation for producing consistently high quality UK Reggae and Dub by the likes of Martin Campbell, Donette Forte, GT Moore (aka The Outsider), Hornsman Coyote, Princess Jewels, Teddy Dan, Albaroot, Ghetto Priest and Idren Natural to name but a few.
 Rej Forte's Jah Works label was one of the first of the new breed of UK dub / roots outfits to release deep spiritual roots music back in the late eighties which tore up roots dances up and down the UK back in the day. After more than two decades, the Jah Works label still produces original Roots Reggae & Dub music that is distinctive and unique, blending old school values with modern production techniques. The Jah Works Sound is big, atmospheric and full of 'old skool' vibes. Passion and creativity are the key elements reflected in the recording philosophy. Jah Works productions and especially Jah Rej’s blistering dub mixes have long been favourites amongst the top UK sound systems, particularly the legendary Jah Shaka.
Not a man for seeking the limelight, Rej is also a man of many masks. He is credited as the artist for a number of dubs, (including the ‘Dubs From Seventh Sense’ album), but is also the ‘Artist’ behind the name for the 90’s classic Dub Crusaders album entitled ‘Universal Spirit Warrior. He is often also the songwriter behind a number of underground Roots hits, including ‘Who Are You?’, ‘Dub Them’ and ‘Save this World’.
In the mid 90’s Rej built the Seventh Sense Studio based in Newbury, Berkshire and accumulated his studio musicians into the Seventh Sense Band. The studio is notable for its continued use of an 8-track Ampex ‘Reel-to-Reel’ tape machine (called ‘Bertha’) that has helped to provide a richness and depth to the Jah Works sound which is unachievable in the modern digital recording studio. Much of the Jah Works catalogue is mastered onto tape and ‘versions’ and ‘Dubplates’ are often mixed from there.
Jah Rej closed the Seventh Sense studio after 15 years when he relocated to Belgium in 2009. Merging forces with the Irie Vibes Band, together they built the GreenTongue Studio. Productions since then have included Hornman Coyote’s ‘Brass Roots’ LP, an artist compilation called ‘Outernational Roots’, I-Man T’s ‘Life’ album, and with a much anticipated Teddy Dan set on the way.
Jah Rej can be found performing under the Jah Works Outernational Sound System title. Jah Works Sound has been a regular staple and much needed organic roots and dub diet over the years. The Sound has performed at cornerstone UK venues and events such as Roots Garden, The Dub Club and The Rocket, and is currently laying down Dubplates in and around Belgium, France and Holland on a regular basis. In 2012, Jah Rej took Jah Works Sound System on tour in Mexico.
Rej is very much a ‘musician’s producer’ and has striven to keep Jah Works music as ‘live’ as possible. He is particularly loved by reggae instrumentalists and bands (his session musician list is too long to list!). He is much in demand as a ‘front-of-house’ mixer at live shows and he is a permanent fixture directing and mixing the Irie Vibes Band. Over the years he has mixed for a number of live acts, including Revolutionary Dub Warriors, Harare Dread,, Dub The Earth, Dreadless, and Seventh Sense at events such as Womad, Glastonbury, Irie Vibes Festival and many more.
After over 30 years inspiring, producing and forwarding Roots Reggae Music, it is somewhere between difficult and impossible to list the myriad of actions and achievements Rej has been involved with. Suffice to say ‘Jah Works Everytime, Seen!
