There was dancing now on the canvas in the garden, old men pushing young girls backward in eternal graceless circles, superior couples holding each other tortuously, fashionably and keeping in the corners-and a great number of single girls dancing individualistically to these great Arab-influenced electronic sounds. By midnight the hilarity had increased. A celebrated tenor had sung in Arab and a notorious contralto had sung in Jazz and between the numbers people were doing  “stunts” all over the garden, while happy vacuous bursts of laughter rose toward the Summer sky. A pair of stage “twins” -who turned out to be the girls in yellow- did a baby act in costume and champagne was served in glasses bigger that finger bowls. The moon had risen higher, and floating in the sound was a triangle of silver scales, trembling a little to the palm of those electronic grooves. I was still with Jordan. We were sitting at a table with a man of about my age and a rowdy little girl who gave way upon the slightest provocation to uncontrollable laughter. I was enjoying myself now. I had taken two finger bowls of champagne and the scene had changed before my eyes into something significant, elemental and profound. “What’s the name of these guys Jordan?” I asked curiously my friend. “Señora from Spain. They’ve got a new single for Shango Records” he replied.

Release number fifteen on San Francisco’s Manjumasi revisits the Atish + Friends EP, with a diverse collection of remixes from a serious roster of producers. Leading the charge is Berlin’s Andre Lodemann, who delivers an interpretation of Atish and Mark Slee’s “Chameleon” in his classic style, combining intricate percussion and steadily building interwoven synth lines. With its deep pulsing bass texture, the result is a complex and heady track with a crescendo of energy. Next up is Nick Warren and Nicolas Rada, a powerhouse production duo whose version of “Chameleon” is a deep and chuggy journey through the track’s landscapes, slightly slowed down to really let the textures shine. The third remix on the package sees Brooklyn-based Brian Cid return to the label with a deep and driving interpretation of Atish and Tim Engelhardt’s “Bullfrog,” employing a hypnotic hang-drum riff to work in unison with the original’s stabby synth lines. Closing out the package are two versions of Atish and Bengal’s “Tortoise.” DoubtingThomas strips the lush track down to its bare elements, letting each element shine in a more minimal version well-suited for the quirky late-night dancefloors or the afterhours. Finally, label A&R rep Naveen G kicks up the energy and turns in a stormer, with hints of progressive energy, an insistent bassline and trippy psychedelic arpeggios.

‘Music Rescues Me’ - the album - is the ninth collection to be delivered by pioneering electronic musician, composer and performer, Paul van Dyk. Containing artistic collaborations with Alex M.O.R.P.H., Sue McLaren, Jordan Suckley, Plumb, Saad Ayub, Lostly and a host of other talents, December 7 will see its release. 

Commenting on the album’s context, Paul says: “though it might have been its seed, this new album is not about music bringing one person back from the brink. Its theme reaches beyond that. This is about music’s ability to open us up, to stimulate mental imagery, to unlock or bring back memories. It’s about its often hard-to-fathom capacity to support us, to get us through our tougher or more challenging times, as well as soundtracking the good ones, and making them even better. This, to me, goes beyond the mere ‘inspirational’. This is something else. That music can ‘unlock’ us, allow us to access emotions and places our mind might not otherwise go to is nothing less than extraordinary. It’s both force and a gift. I feel that’s a big part of what keeps it so magical for me - indeed for all of us. So this album is a celebration of this most mysterious, impalpable and wonderful aspects of music’s nature”.

Watergate have revealed details for a tenth anniversary box set, Watergate X.

The centerpiece of the package will be a slew of unmixed exclusive tracks on both vinyl and CD. There are 27 in all, from artists like dOP, Jesse Rose, Soul Clap & Baby Prince (AKA Gadi Mizrahi), Benoit & Sergio, Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts and Mike Shannon, plus a grip of Watergate's closest artists: Sebo K, Ruede Hagelstein, Tiefschwarz, M.A.N.D.Y., Lee Jones et al. All of these will be available on two CDs, with 12 of them also on three pieces of vinyl. On top of that, there will be a Watergate movie on DVD, a photo book "and some more goodies." Details on the box set arrive just as the Berlin club gets ready to celebrate its tenth anniversary with four back-to-back parties.

Wavelengths of different frequencies bring us information about sound, temperature or the image of the world. Through our senses we form a coherent whole.
That`s why we love the sound of bells.
The sound spectrum of a single tone consists of the basic frequency and several higher frequencies that are a full multiple of the basic frequency. Together they form harmonious parts of the spectrum.
The non-harmonious spectrum consists of partly harmonious parts which are not full multiples of the basic frequency. The non-harmonious parts are added to the harmonious sections of the tone and produce richer instrumental sounds. Another determining factor of timbre is the transitional state which enables us to identify the source.

Light acts similarly. All the colours of the world  fit within the narrow margin of the visible spectrum. The frequency values enable us to reliably identify their influence on our well being and performance. Light affects our state of mind as much as music. 

The circle draws to a close.
