The theme is the end of quarantine, freedom, and new beginnings. This is our most important summer. We wanted to start with the tender energy of dawn out of a long dark night. The mid-set breakbeats represent breaking the chains of quarantine and isolation. Penultimately, Dubtribe's deeply ambivalent Do It Now still inspires a new beginning for us all, on its 20th anniversary. We hope this mix feels as liberating for you as it was for us to make. Perhaps, like birds at dawn.

I was booked for two sets for HH009 and neither recordings worked.  Since I didn't sleep Friday night, I hopped on the decks at 9am and put this together off the cuff for the morning brunch making crew (it was appreciated by some but not by those who were still trying to sleep:)  It's a mix of some deep house tracks, old school jams, house, funk, etc.  Best listed to for Saturday or Sunday brunch or unwinding after a long day. Starting in the misty past of the last century, Erik was taken to a party that he rather enjoyed, which started a habit of having way too much fun dancing to really loud music in unlikely places. Not too long after that first party, he had his own sound system, and carted it all over the deserts, forests and warehouses of southern california to help give other people loud music to dance to. While doing that, he noticed that DJs were having a lot of fun, and figured he should give it a shot. More than a decade after first getting behind the decks, he's still at it, with most of what he plays now falling somewhere in the giant and wonderful family tree of House music. Exactly which branch depends on where and when, but basslines are always key, funk is essential, and a little melody now and then never hurt anyone.
