The spooky stabs and coarse bassline on ‘Unsaid’ recall a memorable dance in the rain at Houghton. ‘Born In The USB’ is our pick, with its wobbling synths over a badass, low slung electro beat. The artwork on the label was made by plasticine, yes plasticine! Let's play.

Selection | Radioactive Man - Born in the USB [Sonicus Croniclus]

Andrew James Gustav demonstrates a refined digger's ear on his own Marginal Returns, unearthing quality underground music by UK veteran Controlled Weirdness while also introducing talented producers to the scene with debut EPs by Sohrab and Two Phase U. With that in mind comes the latest and fascinating Plexus EP by Enrica Falqui, her first solo release. The EP is split in two minds, reflecting the producer's duos Eris (electro/techno) and Yhdessa (ambient/experimental). In tune with the current musical climate, the A-side is taken up by three elegant and spacious downtempo tracks, while a couple of unexpected dancefloor bombs are smuggled in on the B-side. A2 ‘Mond’ is a classy piece of head massaging deep, ambient house.

Selection | Enrica Falqui - Mond [Marginal Returns]

Seekers return in full force with a 4-part vinyl set (plus a 90 minutes tape cassette). About a month ago the label announced the compilation on the sly with single album Integrated Consciousness. No label artwork, neither any artist name, keeping to its underground values of letting the music do the talking. The release reminds us of the label's classic Flirting with Melancholy LP which came with the heartfelt 'Love Intensified By Absence' as a cute 7-inch hidden inside the bigger sleeve. For this new release we've picked ‘Eleven’, a live recording written by Picone, Piermattei and Salvadori, from a special live set that took place out at sea. You can hear the vibe in the rolling broken beats and bassline. While on the A-side it's UK techno veteran and R&S mainstay Paul Weston with a new pseudonym, L74. 

According to the label, the compilation was inspired conceptually by Corrado Malanga’s Flash Dynamic Triade Color Test. While Integrated Consciousness comes as a transparent vinyl (more incognito styling here), the rest of the records are coloured.

Café de Anatolia Rec. rolls out a superb new EP from La'Dell that is rich in Afro house vibes to keep summer alive.
La'Dell is the Brooklyn-born artist bringing a heady fusion of organic, melodic and ethno house. His cultured sounds often climb high in Beatport charts and he now plays all over the world.
MaBeToNi is a serenely deep and dubby cut with twinkling piano keys ringing out into the night, then Mwanzo rides a stuttering broken beat. A gorgeous vocal soars up top next to the subtle percussion and smoky spoken words help cast a spell. Rapport then ups the energy with a nimble groove that heads into a cosmic late night with more authentic Afro vocals and rolling drums and percussion.
These are organic, life enriching sounds from La'Dell.

PREMIERE: La'Dell - Mwanzo (Extended Mix) [Café de Anatolia Rec.]

Taking his place in the great Swiss electronic tradition - peopled by the likes of Carlos Peron, Boris Blank and Grauzone, to name just a few - the Swiss DJ and producer Walid reaches new heights with his highly anticipated proto-techno project "Child of the Waves".
These 7 unreleased tracks could be the soundtrack of a B-movie thriller from the 80s. The compositions are full of imagery, using cinematic samples to stimulate the mind’s eye. He makes strong aesthetic moves, choosing to reinforce rather than attenuate the tension and intensity of his themes: the fear of the unknown, of getting lost and of loneliness; a rage for life and hedonism; and above all the darkness of the human psyche.
For me, his music recalls the atmosphere I experienced in Zurich in the 80s, sometimes icy, withdrawn, even hostile, but also in the image of Walid himself: reserved, mysterious yet also generous. It's all in his music! Just when you think you are in familiar waters, you listen a little more and realise you very much are not.
There's a je-ne-sais-quoi that makes things different and special in his compositions. They sit at the intersection of many genres and sound incredibly fresh to our ears.
After several well-received releases under his various aliases, many of us in this milieu were impatiently waiting for him to strike again and confirm the potential already revealed in his previous productions. With this new release, this has been achieved! For me, he is undoubtedly one of the best-kept treasures in the Swiss vaults and an artist to be watched very closely in the coming years.
