This is my contribution to the PLF Producers, Oops All Swirls! compilation

To my musical ear, Pretty Lights production is already perfect so I had some reservations about submitting a remix for this project when first approached by Jordan
 After giving it some thought, I decided to treat this more like an edit than a remix. I wasn’t interested in creating a new version or altering something I already considered flawless. But an edit gave me room to rearrange and re contextualize rather than replace
 I chose my favorite Pretty Lights track, High School Art Class, and immediately started digging through live versions from the past two years. I pulled out moments that stood out to me most and began weaving them together with elements of the original studio production
 What ended up happening was the creation of a new swirl from my favorite swirls while still keeping true to important elements and transitions in the song
 Once I had the arrangement locked, I recorded some original guitar lines and as a final touch, layered in some of my favorite Bob Ross quotes to act as a gentle guide through the track, because who better to teach Art Class than Bob Ross?
 Big shout out to Jordan and Mikey Thunder for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this collab

This opening track was produced by Tom Davidson in Ableton, laying down the groundwork for the whole track, along with his bass guitar. I took the stems and put them into FL and did my thangy. Make sure you give him props! <3 Stay tuned for solo productions from him in the future!

this song means the absolute world to me. remixing it was something i thought about many times. and many times i decided it was not the right time.
i waited until i felt i was ready to give it the honor it deserves
i first heard this song 18 years ago and I've been trying to get better ever since. 

to have Derek play an early version of this out at elements is nothing short of a dream come true. what a treat it is to be alive and to make music and dance all together with one another. 

i hope you enjoy my take on this classic.

For over 10 years in the saturated Colorado scene, SayWhat?! has actively avoided following trends, and simply delivers the unique musical productions sent to him by the pandaliens from another universe. Now coining the genre "Ratchet Jazz", his productions are full of complex chords, jazzy riffs, and momentary filth. Slap n wobble bass lines work cohesively with hip hop rhythms and vocal samples to create a new era of jazz music that you didn't yet know you needed. Live trumpet and Electronic Woodwind Instrument in his performance are the icing on top, that will surely have you saying, "WHAT?!".
