Kalani is the birthplace of this wave of Ecstatic Dance as we know it and has held a dance strong for 25+ years. After a year break due to the pandemic, they have reopened for a reunion of the dance tribes of the Big Island and dance tribes around the world, providing an incredible movement church ecstatic dance spiritual journey experience on the dance floor every Sunday. It was an honor to lead the dance journey there this July. My intention was to incorporate music global music reflecting varying emotions to send our prayers, intentions and interconnected spirits around the world. I'm excited to share that my new ambient album “Ocoyo” is out on Desert Trax today, which is a tribute to the incredible bio diversity of the jungles of Guatemala and rainforest of Ecuador, and the teachings I've received from various lineages. Through this music, I aim to express my deep appreciation for the natural beauty of our planet. This album is dedicated to Delfin & Cesario Piaguaje of the Siekopai tribe, true masters of the Amazon, who have blessed me with their wisdom in the Maloka. The essence of the lotus, the rose, as well as other plants and fungi, have been woven into the fabric of each track on this album. I am grateful for the wisdom and guidance of these allies, and for their assistance in the creation of this music. I am continually in awe of the incredible power and knowledge that can be found within the plant kingdom.

Ecstatic Dance Melbourne - March 2023

So exited to share my closing DJ set at Ecstatic Dance Melbourne's 2023 finale! The diverse crowd and fluid dance styles created a dynamic atmosphere that went from meditation through to full blown cathartic release. My set, spanning various genres, resonated with the engaged audience, blurring the line between tempos and energetic dynamics, leaving an indelible mark on everyone present. It was a transformative and magical conclusion to a year filled with connection and unity.

We begin the practice in a meditative state hence ambient, organic and downtempo sounds proceed the first part of all my Ecstatic Dance mixes at Ecstatic Dance Melbourne until Madhu opens. If necessary you can fast forward to around 50 minutes in to where uptempo beats drop after this and we swing into a dance floor grove elevating, then finding ecstasis or our peak moments together around 1 hour 40 minutes, then ending in sultry solstice prayerful guidance by the wonderful Madhu Honey once again. Enjoy.

ENVISION FESTIVAL - ECSTATIC DANCE
(edit. Sat, 9 March: Renamed set "JUNGLE PRAYER ECSTATIC DANCE". Thank you everyone for the feedback. Your dance in the jungle was juicey.  The set was a collective somatic prayer, an embodiment and a devotion to the dance as medicine).

And like all my ecstatic dance mixes, this is a raw portrait of the dance floor before me,  each set experienced as a unrehearsed, spontaneous collaboration with the dancers. But on this particular night in the jungle I had and agenda: Peace, prayer, healing, tribe, remembrance, beauty, home.

Envision Festival was the apotheosis of what a dance floor can do, and how far it can go as collective cathartic release. It was a total hot, sweaty meltdown of a trust fall.  

p.s. DJing ecstatic dance at a festival generally requires getting down to business from the get-go. Unlike indoors, these dances compete with other stages, are a porous container, comers-and-goers, talking on the dancefloor....and this also makes it special and surprising for the uninitiated.
