Bio:

Almost Famous is a Berlin based DJ. Growing up with 90s hip hop, he gradually found his way to house and disco music through funk and soul. While he always had a passion for sharing music and collecting records, he started DJing only a few years back. What started as a gig for fun at a friend’s birthday party slowly but surely developed into a real passion for mixing music on a regular basis. Together with a couple of friends, Almost Famous organizes and hosts ‘Not In My House’ and ‘Disko, No Disko’, both recurring club nights at Humboldthain Club in Berlin. Though bringing joy to people on the dance floors of Berlin is what initially drove his love for mixing music, he adapted to the current circumstances by starting to contribute to more and more guest mixes for house and disco lovers to enjoy, wherever they are.

Deeper House Podcast #45 - Almost Famous

A live set from DJ Garth at the infamous SF Come-Unity party in 1994 along with Simon and Jeno. The Come-Unity party was a monthly mid-week party in San Francisco that started in 90's. It was initially on every 1st Tuesday of the month  and then moved to every 1st Wednesday of the month in 1993. The event was a major influence that helped shape the underground house and techno scene in San Francisco that we have known to love today. I would describe it as a grown up rave with around 1000+ in attendance with DJs that played forward thinking creative dance music (nothing commercial). The first time I went to a Come-Unity party (around 1999 at 1015 Folsom) I was blown away. I am happy to share this mix of SF dance music history with you. Enjoy!

Someone who has been at the forefront of music throughout his whole life whether its wearing his journalist hat, author cap, producer trilby, remixer bandana or of course his disc jockey deerstalker, Bill Brewster is an absolute tour de force of the scene.

We're thrilled that him and his Low Life partner in crime and fellow author Frank Broughton will join us on Dec 9th at The Golden Lion for a social shimmy shindig and to crank up the excitement factor he's done us this rather superb guest mix which you need to crack on & crank up asap!

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of returning to my home from home, Tisno in Croatia, for another edition of Hospitality on the Beach, with the Hospital Records crew and more. 

This time round, I was there to warm up the Beach Stage with some alternative chilled vibes, ahead of the heavyweight drum & bass programming across the week. I ended up doing three sets there this year, on one of my favourite DJ booths on the planet. Somewhere I’ve been lucky to spin at for well over a decade now.

This is a selection of 70 tracks I enjoyed playing, plucked from those sessions, mixed over the course of two and a bit hours, which was the average length of my sets.

X-genre vibes, starting off real laidback & going the full 360° spectrum of BPMs. 
Soul, r&b, hip hop, reggae, amapiano, beats, bruk, house, UK funky, garage, grime and dubstep, finishing on a touch of jungle and d&b. Plus, natch, a few guilty pleasures along the way (except I have no guilt about any of it).


Fun facts:

- I did the very first performance of the festival, opening the proceedings. A cancelled flight & various other issues meant going straight in without sleeping for about 30 hours, and riding on pure adrenaline and the Croatian heat!

- This mix was recorded in one take, live, no messing about, so similar to how it went down in Tisno. I kept it real.

- A cold before I left + short haul flight pressure = an ear infection, basically from the moment I landed in Tisno, which I still have!! So this was basically all mixed using one ear. Also similar conditions to how I did it there!

“Never on the left ‘cos my right’s my good ear” as Q Tip once said..
