So cool that you know of the old school and still clearly regard it.  This has strong charm in that and other ways.  It's great that you used a number of parts, had good changes and didn't let it get boring.  There is definitely an able hand dishing out groove and the funk, so nice to hear.  And whooaa Nelly, did I freaking hear '70s style thumping on the bass like in the best of that era's Disco?  I believe I haven't heard that in this whole millenium.  Like they used to say back then, that was nasty, that was the joint.

'Battle Scars' is about a woman who has been through a tough relationship but come out stronger on the other side. She still has these metaphorical battle scars but she is stronger than ever. It's a song about overcoming hard times in your life, and yeah I guess it's a 'female power' song too.
It's got a 70s live band vibe to it, as I wanted it to be raw but the production is modern, so it's a kind of crossover.

Here we talk about aspects of the ills of society, by way of the different types of thief that plague us. This is within a hard core, yet slow, groove in the genres of Funk and (good) Disco.  In this funk / disco / dance piece, old-school standards apply.  A down-home feeling to the groove power makes this something most funk fans can relate to. Bass is definitely in the house, with the horns and more. It's a song that touches on real life and real human nature.  Lyrics follow.
