We are proud to present our first podcast ever! 

For this special occasion, we invited SPÆCIAL RECORDINGS head honcho Rough_Thought, direct from Madrid.

We will let the music do the talking, but first we want to get to know our special guest.

1. How and where was the mix recorded?

I recorded the mix at home a couple of weeks ago with my set up: 2 x Technics SL1210mk5, Xone42 mixer and one monitor Krk Rokit 8.

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

The main idea is to dance!  After a year without dancefloors, this is what I would like to do the most without a doubt, dancing surrounded by good friends and a good soundsystem. 

I have chosen music with a good groove and mood, 90's tech-house influenced mainly, with records from 1990 till nowadays. 

There are also a couple of tracks with a clear italian house influence, I'm a lover of this sound too.

3. What are your main infuences regarding electronic music and Djing in general?

I admire many artists, I think it is something very healthy, to admire and appreciate the artists who resonate with you and your ideas. I have a deep admiration for the great diggers and underground DJs of the current scene: Nicolas Lutz, Onur Ozer, Francesco del Garda, Jane Fitz, Quest... 

But it is also true that some times I prefer to listen to less known DJs, but nonetheless very talented ,like Joe Delon, Don Rafael, Roza Terenzi, Adam Pits or N-gynn to name a few.

In these last years and thanks to the label, I have met people in mi city, Madrid, that I also admire a lot like Dj F, Joaquin Texeira, Difid aka Dakpa... the list is endless.

4. Tell us a bit more about SPÆCIAL, why and how did you set up the label?

SPÆCIAL RECORDINGS was born out of pure love for this culture. It is a project that I have together with two of my best friends, Azid Kousin and Nacho Campo. 

In it, there is no other ambition than to release good records showing our particular vision of dance music. It is a completely independent project and all decisions are made by consensus between the three of us. 

Currently, and due to the personal situation in our lives, the project is working slower, but it remains solid and strong. 

We are looking forward to start events under our own command. Maybe when clubs reopen, we will see the first Spæcial showcase...

5. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

This year we will surely have a new release, although it is still too early to unveil anything. Personally, my first goal is to keep alive from raising my two young children (laughes). After that, I would love to start making music again and putting out my first solo EP on Spaecial. And of course keep buying music and playing records, I think I'll do that until the day I die

A native of Erfurt in central Germany, Mary Yalex has been residing in Leipzig for the past decade, a city with a suitably industrial past that’s often reflected in her own music. Like many in her chosen field, Yalex grew up in a musical home, with a piano-playing mother who passed along a deep appreciation of classical music.

Midnight Community #58 w/ Mary Yalex - 09.09.21

This set was recorded live at The Bunker at Public Assembly on August 3, 2012.  Pittsburgh Track Authority drove from Pittsburgh in a car packed to the brim with gear and filled up the entire stage with all live hardware their set-up.  Their live sets are quite rare in general, and this was their first and (so far) only live gig outside the city of Pittsburgh.  As you can hear, they absolutely murdered the place.  They've since put out a bunch more records and will be self-releasing their debut album this year.

Our fist SoHaSo podcast of the year is something truly special. It’s brought to you by the mastermind  behind our latest release and the track Europa on the SOMEWHERE compilation, it’s the work of Quince. Listening to his Rif EP you might have expected something completely different for this podcast, but it’s a sign of the broad range of sounds that influence Quince to produce his own signature sonics. Aptly titled ‘Quince’s West African Psychedelic Funk Show’, it’s  an hour long blend of Fela inspired grooves, backed by hypnotising keys, phasing synths and blazing horns. We certainly have transported to a warm and sweaty place somewhere far away from the cold outside our office, which is a very welcome addition and it might do just the same for you… Enjoy!

Very few have the capacity or grit to maintain longevity within dance and electronic music, many have tried but become swept up amidst the chaos and strife of the industry in a fickle and uncompromising climate. Bushwacka! is a producer and disc jockey with whom many will be familiar and fond - he remains a UK icon of sorts having released amidst the classic era of acid house and then evolved through his collaborations with Layo during the golden age of dance music in Ibiza. He has dabbled in a spectrum of genres but most notably during the nineties he was involved in an emerging, interesting tech house sound which has since been reborn as of late with reissues by the likes of Holding Hands amongst others. Perhaps an unsung hero of the genre his music sounds just as relevant and enticing now as it did back in the 90's...

These days appearances from Bushwacka! are sparse, a man with no need to impress he is now in a luxurious position in which he can pick his own gigs with care and attention to detail. Hence having the chance to observe him play at present is rare.

This summer Layo and Bushwacka! will return for a special appearance at Campo Sancho, a small countryside festival with a big heart and a passion which was born amidst the hedonistic days of Notting Hill Carnival. It promises to be a blistering demonstration of what the duo have achieved through their sound and commitment to dance music across many years. 

In celebration of this, we invited Bushwacka! to take us through some of the formative music in his career, a deeply old school set showcasing fantastic take in deep house and tech house in all their glory. This one is a little bit special....

Scar Duggy is known for her dynamic and percussive sets that draw influence from Latin and global club sounds. With over a decade of experience, Scar confidently showcases her extensive knowledge of various genres to deliver electrifying performances that captivate audiences worldwide. 

Hailing from a rich musical background as a drummer and clarinetist, Scar began hosting her own weekly breakfast show on a local London radio station age 15, since then she has taken up numerous long lasting residencies at  Subtle Radio, Foundation FM and Flex FM and was most recently asked to host her own 5 hour marathon take over on Rinse.FM, ‘The Baile takeover’ showcasing some of Brazil's most in demand and rising talents. 

Scar’s love for world music has taken her to DJ in 14 countries across Europe, Central and S.America, playing in some of the most prestigious clubs and festivals including Fabric, Sisyphos, Rio Carnival, ADE festival and Fusion Festival. She also curated a club night ‘TAIKO’ with a female focused line up, whilst she was last in Sao Paulo.
