“Memoria” is an album about my memories, my hometown, the scent and flavours of my childhood, things Iʼve read, movies Iʼve watched at the cinema and my love for music. Itʼs about going back home, re-establishing a link with the past and recalling cheerful and happy memories.
“Memoria” refers specifically to the regions of Minais Gerais and the Brazilian northeast, its hot climate, the religiousness of the people and its faith in miracles, calling to mind images of mysterious and surreal popular tales, where time flows slowly in an intimate dimension.

After a four years hiatus since the previous album Lonesome Traveller, The Dining Rooms are back with a work that reconnects to the early sounds of the Milanese duo: a soundtrack of cosmic funk, abstract jazz and cinematic avant-garde.

It only takes a glance to the title of the album to grasp its highly evocative power. On the one hand an homage to Sun Ra, an icon that infused a new meaning to the word ‘cosmic’, a space messenger able to bring new spirituality and vision to music. Hipster, on the other hand, is a word that in our age of social networks identifies one the most hated social species, but had originally profound social and political roots. Jack Kerouac described Hipsters as “rising and roaming America, bumming and hitchhiking everywhere as characters of a special spirituality”. Hipsters were forward thinking cultural explorers, a social movement characterised by an appetite for novelty and experimentation.

And this is what Do Hipsters Love Sun (Ra)? is about: a soundtrack condensing cosmic elements, a thirst for exploration and discovery, and the ability to dream. Abstract jazz, cosmic funk, instrumental hip-hop: Do Hipsters Love Sun (Ra)? has all these typical traits of The Dining Rooms’ sound, but also a strong cinematic element that delves into the rich world of Italian film scores and library music. The contemporary reinterpretation of that influence is another theme of the album, pervading the tracks with the mesmerising quality of those soundtracks.

 Being born an acquainted singer hailing from the classic swing tradition, his timbre resembles crooners such as Frank Sinatra or the newer generations, Micheal Bublé and Jamie Cullum.

This debut album represents a great artistic challenge, an example of Schema’s research and production work.

The reaserch has identified  a selection of songs capable to enhance the best qualities of his voice and involve him emotionally; a rich ensemble of tracks studied across several musical genres with the aim of showing off the interpretation.

The resulting tracklist consists of a series of tracks wisely rearranged and modernized, enriched by the presence of two previously unreleased gems by Ermanno Principe, a well known singer, drummer and multi instrumentalist on  the milanese scene.

The sound of Schema is the fil rouge of this record which features three exeptional finnish musicians: directly from the ‘Five Corners Quintet’ alto sax player Timo Lassy, trumpetist Jukka Eskola and drummer Teppo Maykynen.

Famous italian jazz players Gaetano Partipilo, Luca Mannutza and Pietro Ciancaglini, along with guests like Alessandro Magnanini and Sandro de Bellis complete the ensemble.

Arrangements have been made by Pietro Ciancaglini, who also arranged Mario Biondi’s “Handful of Soul”. Here Pietro delivers a brass section worthy of a big band even if writing for only three voices
