I'm really digging the groove. Great to see that the percussive sounds are interesting in themselves, without the "field recording" context. Thank you for composing this!

god I live for this double time groove.  i feel arrogant thinking I could understand how you did this,... but how in the hell did you conceptualize this?  it feels so honest and succinct even praising and nodding the Thomas Dolby classic.

The last 2/3 of a live set performed at Oil Club, Shenzhen, China. The event was a (belated) launch party for Guangzhou Underground's ambient compilation "Thanks for Stopping By," on which I have one track. Thanks to Simon Bishop for organizing and to Oil Club for as-always excellent technical support.

This track was built from a single synth in Supercollider. I used the Dust UGen to ping a 2 pole resonant filter, applied a long-ish ASR envelope then randomly sequenced the notes as well as several other parameters in a Pbind and let it rip.

There are 4 audio loops cut out of some improvisations recorded while Judith was testing her new amplified viola setup. Speeds were modified to get everything into a unified pitch-space. The loops come in at different times and overlap in different ways over time.

Starting it off, and continuing underneath the 4 loops, you'll hear some snippets from a public domain "documentary" called Heat and Temperature by Coronet Films.

Disquiet Junto Project 0450: Texture Analysis
The Assignment: Create a piece of music from sounds related to working with rocks.

This project is the third of three that are being done over the course of as many months in collaboration with the 2020 Musikfestival Bern, which will be held in Switzerland from September 2 through 6 under the motto “Tektonik” (“Tectonics”).  We are working at the invitation of Tobias Reber, an early Junto participant, who is in charge of the educational activities of the festival. This is the second year in a row that the Junto has collaborated with Musikfestival Bern. Select recordings resulting from these three Disquiet Junto projects will be played on a listening booth at the Steinatelier on September 5, as well as being aired on Radio RaBe (rabe.ch), an independent local radio station partnering with the festival.

Step 1: Download the field recordings made at Carlo Bernasconi AG, a company that has been working in stone for over a century. The sounds range from machines to manual tools to spatial ambience.

Step 2: Listen for aspects of the recordings that attract your ears. Focus on textures in particular.

Step 3: Create a piece of music combining elements from as few or as many as you chose in Step 2.

My Process:
Looking through the source files I instantly locked on to a rhythmic loop and begun building on it and tweaking and layering ambience.  

Fellow Junto Participant @Kiggler joined me on Discord to suggest rearrangements and changes that dramatically improved the flow of the track.  

All sounds are from the provided source audio (except for the kick drum).

This project was a collaboration between myself and Jon Siemasko (Schemawound) for the Oct 29th-Nov2 Disquiet Junto.
This track takes the listener on a journey from outside a solar system, past large planetary bodies, asteroid fields, and cosmic debris in search of a Goldilocks Zone.  The Goldilocks Zone found briefly (around the 4:20 mark), but the journey takes an unfortunate turn as the listener is pulled in to the star.
