Dat Garcia presents “Fantaseo”, the fourth single from her new album “Las Fuerzas Almadas” to be released on ZZK Records in April 2022.

In a balanced fusion of hip-hop, pop, and electronica, Dat once again departs from any pure genre, embracing groove with poetic and explicit sentiments, reflecting on the potential of desire and fantasy.

For centuries, pleasure was taboo and fantasy was used as a tool to escape reality. Garcia proposes reconnecting desire with action and movement, so that the imagination modifies and creates a more concrete reality. Fantasy is the tool that leads to the creation and materialization of who we are and what we came to Earth to do.

If desire is the engine of change and creation, “Fantaseo” is a reminder that pleasure begins with oneself. Immersing yourself in self-love and becoming conscious of one’s own body can develop new erogeneities and the confidence to create a new reality. The Great Source is self-knowledge.

Roam Recordings’ latest instalment features long time label friends 40 Thieves – known for previous releases on the likes of Permanent Vacation, Leng, and Rong Records – and their excellent redux of Squeeze’s 1978 classic “Take Me I’m Yours”. The combo’s take on this proto-new wave gem renders the tune as spacier and yet more dance floor focused, with the sultry voice of Nina Lares supplying the captivating hook. The result is as slinky as can be, with a hypnotic four-on-the-floor providing the anchor for layers of lush pads and keys as Nina sings the spine-shivering melody. 

“Way back in 2014 on a rough stormy day, we found ourselves playing the baseline and leads along to the original version (by Squeeze) in the background and ultimately recorded midi for the entire thing. We built a new drum and rhythm track and ran the midi through some synths. The lovely and multi-talented chanteuse, Nina Lares, who has been recording with us for years and is long overdue for a release with us, graciously took on the song and re-interpreted the melodies and style in her own way. The result is laid back, natural, hypnotic. You know.. how we prefer pretty much everything. Did our best to keep the track sparse, to the point, focused on Nina, and take you somewhere else for a while. On remix we duty is was a call to some existing friends, new names and old to the initiated world of weirdo music.” - 40 Thieves, 2016

The first remix is a hearty chugger from Tronik Youth (Nein Records). The drums are given a bit more bite, riding a pulsing synth line while the vocals are eerily dubbed in and out. Next up Simon Peter (Claremont 56, Silhouette Music) shows his mastery of the live bass guitar which is front and center of his smoothed out balearic take on the tune. Bright chords and hand percussion make this one special for hazed-out moments. San Francisco up-and-comer Praus rounds out the package with a languid psychedelic version that recalls Massive Attack with its moody grittiness and dubby tendencies.

Fresh from the release of Phillips, his debut solo album for Running Back, Lauer, one half of Arto Mwambe, releases the Macsat Ring Down 12” for Beats In Space Records.

Like the satellite that it cites, Lauer’s “Macsat Ring Down” follows an elliptic pattern fit for infinite play on any space floor. On “Mascat”, analog space junk flies in and out of an orbital framework built upon nearly nine minutes of bubbling bass and peripheral percussion. Space boogie at its finest.

An anti-gravity exercise in repetition, Lee Douglas remixes "Macsat" for the flipside. Reaching a zen state through mantra-like looping that would make Steve Reich proud, Douglas reworks Lauer’s sounds from a delicate and pensive place to a muscular and propulsive groove. Most if not all of the synthesized glitter from the original is eventually forgone in favor of blasted percussion and an unrelenting bassline.

The digital bonus remix by The Backwoods - aka DJ Kent, one half of Tokyo’s Force of Nature - floats “Macsat” back to earth. The soulful piano that backbones the track conjures sunrises off the shores of Orion and a galactic hangover from all the space juicin’. The Backwoods brings some brawn to the original arrangement and allows alien interception by way of a mangled but melodic celestial sound choir.

Each 12" from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. BIS004 12" features artwork by Kensei Yabuno, whose mutant life form illustrations lurk in corners all over the design universe. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling. The 12" will be available on September 25th, 2012 from fine retailers worldwide. The digital version will be available October 2nd, 2012 from the drab internet universe.
