In March of this year we saw Jimpster’s Porchlight And Rocking Chairs LP fall on expectant and eager ears, winning praise from the likes of RA, DJ Mag and Groove as well as plays and support from a host of the worlds best radio and club DJ’s. With the majority of the LP being more home listening than club-focused we decided to call in some of our favorite producers to rework a track of their choice for the dance-floors and here we present you the first part of the amazing results.

KiNK needs little introduction of course, except to say that his live set as well as his hands on hardware approach in the studio has seen him become established as one of the most exciting producers of the last couple of years. When he agreed to remix Porchlight And Rocking Chairs (a track he incidentally referred to as his favorite of the year!) we couldn’t have been happier and knew that something very special would come from it. When he got in touch to say he’d done a version but explained it was done live in one take with all the parts being tweaked in real time making it very hard to change anything we were even more intrigued and excited. As expected, what he delivered is an intense, high energy reworking full of piercing high’s and rattling lows, keeping the original chords and many of the keyboard lines in place but injecting a raw drive and improvised feel which has already seen it become a highlight of Jimpster sets this summer.

Andre Lodemann provides the perfect antidote to KiNK’s frenetic version in the form of his Towards The Seer Remix, going for a tight, emotive, late night groove which develops slowly, teasing out the arrangement and keeping things sublime and understated. Subtle bass twists and dubbed out FX build to the extended break where we’re introduced to the original’s acoustic bass riff in all it’s glory. Another brilliant Andre Lodemann production.

The B-side kicks into gear with ‘The Feels’ an understated and raw house number that wears its heart on its chest. As a new dawn breaks the urgency of life stirs once again, sound-tracked by a never-ending rollercoaster of emotion that blankets the earth.

Unclear Records founders Easy To Remember return to the imprint this April with ‘C’est Nul’, backed with a remix from Black Loops.

The original mix of title-track ‘C’est Nul’ leads on the package, a gritty slice of deep house laid out over seven minutes with dusty drum samples, ethereal pads and a wandering acid bass line as spoken word vocals and bubbling arpeggios gradually ease into the robust yet hypnotic groove.

Berlin based producer Black Loops steps in to remix the title-track next, offering a more reduced interpretation led by breaksy drums and rumbling subs whilst the original’s vocal line and dreamy arps float within.

The second original from Easy To Remember, ‘I’m Gonna Get You Raymond’ closes the release, seeing the pair opt for chuggy square wave bass hits, spiraling resonant synth licks and warbling chord sequences alongside crunchy percussion and film like voice phrases to create a funk-infused house workout.

Nadia Khan returns on Scissor and Thread for another sublime mini LP, Port Ana. Based in North Carolina, Khan first drew a lot of attention via a cassette release on Where To Now? Records in 2015. 
Her sophomore statement was the beautiful In Gleam released in 2018 on Francis Harris’ Brooklyn-based label, which set the tone for these five tracks of meditative music. 
The title track Port Ana opens the journey - a gentle, droning soundscape with effortlessly bewitching glints of melody. 
Conversation follows on, drawing on loops and textures to create the background for a deep, pulsing kick drum. The sounds shift and evolve, leaving a hazy sense of movement to drift away to. 
Next up is Objects In Form which presents a fragile chord progression that barely holds itself together, surrounded by shifting pads and swathes of reverb. 
Rain Again is presented here in two versions. The original combines ethereal sounds, weightless and adrift, while the Lawrence remix firmly grounds the track with a hypnotic, deep groove. The Dial boss provides another remix for the digital release that further plays with the textures of the original to create something that works both for an open minded dancefloor and as a home listening experience.
