I think the drums came first on this - they were swinging so hard and it had such a funky vibe that I had quite a bit of trouble finding a musical element or hook which really fit the groove. The one I ended up with initially sounded way too childish and simple to me and it took REPEATED plays, both in the studio and out in the clubs before I realized that it should stay. Being so simple, I ran it thru SupaTrigga, recorded and bounced it out as audio, reversed it and then brought it back in around the main hook at various times to create a cooler effect than I'd have gotten with other effects. This allowed me to focus more on the breakdowns and fills which really came alive on a big system. - Dubfire

Minimal bombs from LA-based, Dubfire-championed SHADED

Shaded is the new solo project of Skyler Taugher, one of the members of SHDWPLAY, whose releases to date have all been via Dubfire's SCI+TEC label, which speaks to his talent for stripped-down, big room techno. This four track EP bridges the gap between pumping, classic M_nus-style minimal techno and whatever it's more fun and modern counterpart is. 

Opener Sheshe has been a staple in label-boss Tiga's sets of late, a slick, energetic and eminently playable club record. Things get darker for Side Sippin and Jane Smith Goes To DC10 before closer Single Freax funs things up again in the closer slot with what sounds like a police siren on drugs under a vocal going “freak-freak-freak,” classic elements for effective party tools…

Next on Mesmeric is a rather large EP from India rising star Vinayak A, with two brand new original tracks & a very cool pack of remixes.

EP Title track "Sands of Goa" is a deep prog-house number with hypnotic loops while the second EP track, "Sometimes It Just Turns Into Reality" starts as an ambient track with tons of intriguing sounds before venturing into House territory. Some extremely well crafted sounds we're very proud to feature on Mesmeric.

To back the two Originals, we're happy to deliver an "All Stars" line up of remixers. Starting with Hernan Cattaneo & SoundExile. The Buenos Aires maestros deliver an awesome re-interpretation of "Sands of Goa", starting with some almost techy sounds before developing one of these magic melodic loops. With February's "Ronan Point" ep still wrecking the dancefloors and proving itself to be one of the labels strongest debut releases, Italian duo Macromism return to SCI+TEC with their latest smash, "District Zero." 

Having forged a more minimal path on their early recordings for the likes of Polar Noise and Zoo Technique, it was Mattia & Eugenio's 2011 releases for Inmotion and Carlo Lio's Rawthentic Music, that saw the duo explore the deeper side of tech-house, to great success. 

2012 kicked off at pace and saw Macromism feature their music on Break New Soil, Suara, Kling Klong, Kiara and of course their debut for SCI+TEC. Their latest for the label is lead by "District Zero," otherwise known as the dancefloor. Right, here, right now, on that very spot, the demonic vocal instructs us to move, shake, dance and get sweaty… And backed by the hypnotic beats and stabbing synth riff its impossible not to. 

"News From Barcelona" on the flip takes the far more straight up, heads down approach as it powers forward from the off. Piercing hats and a lurking bassline lay the foundation before we break for some Pathe news. Whilst the broadcast is more British than Spanish, Macromism's beats are firmly rooted in the mediterranean.

We welcome back Italian techno team and longtime members of the SCI+TEC family, MiniCoolBoyz, for their third release on the label. Once described as the prodigies of m-nus main-man Richie Hawtin and as "future stars of electronic music" by our very own Dubfire, the boys have come a long way since their first release with the label back  in 2010. 

Mike and Raphael's exciting blend of minimal groove-laden techno and tech house continues to impress and has soundtracked one of their most successful years to date. With a seam-busting tour diary that has seen them grace many of the summers biggest festivals, a catalogue of 2012 releases for the likes of Saved, Material and Terminal M, plus the ongoing success of their very own Amazing Records imprint, life really couldn't be better for the Italian duo. Now, after their blistering summer, MiniCoolBoyz kick off their winter season and ask, "Whats Going On?".

Their vinyl cuts "What's Popping?" and "What's Going On" have been described by the boys themselves, perfectly we might add, as "minimal, weird, dark and trippy… with added energy bombs!". There are not many resident DJ's who can transport a whole dancefloor following from one club to another. Boris the St. Petersburg native and NYC resident did just that. With the imminent closure of his beloved Crobar and having built a huge loyal following through his three year residency, he simply uprooted, moved the 20 blocks north to Pacha New York and continued the party with his "Believe in Boris" faithful.

Boris is the latest in a long line of NYC residents that have bonded tightly with their crowd and risen to become folk heroes, both in the US and across the pond. Having plied his groove-based power-house sound across the finest clubs in the US in the early 2000's, it wasn't long before Boris was lending his musical talents to remixing some of the biggest names in pop and finding his name at the top of the Billboard Club chart. On the underground, where he's most at home, Boris has wowed us with his club smashes "I Can't Wait"(Toolroom), "Ariba" (Great Stuff) and the classic "The Drums" (Nervous Records).

His debut double-header for SCI+TEC sees Boris presenting his unrivalled dancefloor knowledge in the form of "Generate" and "Foul Beats". Nothing rotten here though, just two prime slices of techno. Whilst the a side warms us with its funky bassline and and elasticated poppin' riff, the b side is pure NYC with its heads-down no-nonsense pile-driver of a kickdrum. One for the darkrooms, its intense atmosphere and huge build will ensure many roof raising moments. Also included on the package is the equally intense and powerful digital exclusive cut, "Check It."

TEC079 - A - BORIS - GENERATE

Whilst October saw the end of SHDWPLAY, November celebrates the birth of SHADED. With the LA based duo calling time on the production partnership, it was time for Skyler Taugher to step from the, dare we say it, shadows and cast out on his own musical journey. SCI+TEC are proud to host his first solo ep featuring the provocatively titled, 'Lick Tease' and 'Be My Binge.' 

The trademark grooves are still strong, however SHADED forgoes some bounce for an added bite on his new productions. The basslines remain warm and fuzzy but his solid kickdrum powers through each cut. The minimal stylings of 'Lick Tease' with its trippy riffs, sci-fi synth shimmers and filtered vocals make for a sultry techno soundtrack. 

'Be My Binge' sees SHADED gorging on bass, pierced by a variety of sounds and FX in his now trademark style. Sleazy stuff from the American and perfect for those early morning moments when things are getting freaky. So a new face and a expansion on a well loved sound from SHADED. We are so excited to hear what he has in store next!!

As if Coyu hasn't given Skint enough with his 2011 floor filler remix of “X-Press 2 - Muzik Xpress”, he's back again to pay homage to one of the greatest and most celebrated Skint releases of all time. Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right Now. 

Coyu takes the iconic string / sitar loop, laces it with a shimmering hi-hat rhythm over a pounding kick drum and punctuates it with choral stabs, to create a funked up club banger that manages to retain all the drama of the original. Take that dance floor; see if you can better this. Hands will be lifted, feet will be stomped and parties will peak. 

Can anyone contain the possibilities of this track? We don't think so. It's stamped its place in dance music history and who better to reaffirm its position than Suara boss man, Coyu.

Crackboy returns to I’m a Cliché for a second EP with the label. Crackboy, the mysterious and anynomous beat junkie, so skilled at blending timeless hyper dirty sounds, for the first time has made room for original vocals. He presents three new killer tracks.

1. First track “Apes” is a sexy house song made for taking one’s shirt off on the dancefloor. Vocals are sung by a previous member of the band Haussmann, Claude Violante, now colabrorating with Crackboy for her solo projects.

2. On the second “User”, a sampled ghettoish speech with aggressive claps and ecstatic chords leads to climax halfway through. “The fucking monkeys are coming”, says the guy. Picture them on the dancefloor, now.

3. The closing track “Kiddo” is all about muscled acid and soundsystems being given a rough time.

Having provided a platform for many of our new artists to showcase their talents, for TEC071 we welcome back a producer who has been a key member of our label family since his 2008 release, 'Crysis'.  Since then, Sweden's John Andersson aka Zoo Brazil has also featured on the label with his 2010 single 'Match' and his mighty 2011 release 'Slob'. A track that, backed by its super strong Nick Curly remix, went on to feature in charts throughout the year. 

In his typical no-holds-barred fashion, Zoo Brazil's latest SCI+TEC smash, 'Cut Boots', hits hard and heavy with its stomping tribal beats. Its electronic march is enhanced and graced by the beauty of its youthful vocals. On the remix we welcome back Canadian duo The Junkies who, fresh from releases on Rawthentic and Octopus, take 'Cut Boots' into deeper and darker territory with a perfect 4am soundtrack.

Mladen Tomic's brand of tribal infused techno and tech house has won him an ever increasing band of followers. Many of the industry's biggest names and characters are supporting his work and his releases on Night Light Records, Octopus, 1605, Terminal M have become staples in the sets of Dubfire, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Sian, Monika Kruse and many more. Having kicked off his career as a party promoter and DJ, alongside fellow SCI+TEC artist Sinisa Tamamovic, Mladen has experienced all facets of club life, good and bad, and its these experiences which have played an important part in his very own production work.  

Tomic will never let the floor cool, keeping things heated with his hypnotic and relentless grooves. Following on the heels of his blistering Suara release the Bosnian producer drops another quartet of primetime techno-tools that for some, could be too hot to handle.

Twin Turbo creams all over the dancefloor with the latest release from Harvard Bass. Featuring a remix by Ambivalent.

For his second release on Twin Turbo, San Diego's Harvard Bass whips the cream right out of dancers' jeans, which seems like something that should appeal to pretty much everyone, including the big-name DJs (Tiga, Brodinski, Zombie Nation) who privately chart his every move.

First, the title track walks right in and kicks you repeatedly in the toms, bringing the bass and party bleepin' that's become as cherished a part of our cultural fabric as the acoustic guitar or the air horn. With its infectious, sped-up hip-hop vocal, "Cream" could become the biggest track in the world, or something you play for friends for the first time for the next 20 years. It's not  for us to dictate the life of our artist's work, only to shove it into the waiting arms of any weirdo with five euros and a GMail account. Meanwhile, the narcotized vocal sample on "Pimps" promises listeners "everything they want in life," and delivers with the kind of clap workout they've been dreaming of since the moment of conception.

For the remix, we looked to someone to whom it seemed wise to look. With releases on M-nus and Plus 8, multiple collaborations with Alexi Delano, and remixes for the likes of Plastikman, Berlin-based American Ambivalent was, we felt, an inspired and courageous choice to take on as balls-all-over a track as "Cream." And what he delivers is perhaps the greatest marriage of German tech precision and Florida bass energy since Volume Four of the Orlando-Munich Connection comp series.
