Yes, I have already premiered two tracks this week (see Plïnkï Plønkï and Resina), and yes, this is another premiere of a track, and yet it is immensely needed, wanted, and necessary during these somewhat anxious times. “Rjóður” comes from the Icelandic composer Snorri Hallgrímsson, whom I’ve profiled on many occasions before (see also his In the Studio with… feature), as well as celebrated for his film music, which has been backed by the wonderful Moderna Records (home to many fantastic modern classical and solo piano composers, such as Jacob David, Ed Carlsen, Tim Linghaus, Tambour, and even yours truly). This particular piece appears on Hallgrímsson’s second EP titled Landbrot II – the first having been released last November with five pieces, and now, a year later, with five more. “The collection takes its name from the location of Hallgrímsson’s family cabin in rural Iceland, which he describes as his ‘happy place’. Landbrot translates to erosion or ‘land fractures’, and from this, we can imagine the search for inner calm and acceptance amongst the many obstacles of daily life.”

Sketches: Floating Landscape

Today I wanted to do something a bit more energetic. After yesterday's attempt, I realized that I need to do something to make the mixing of the parts more dynamic, so I put together a control template in TouchOSC which allows me to mix levels and the lowpass filters of the different parts of the Volca Sample without having to switch back and forth between them all the time.

arteqcue was an independent netlabel for electronic music founded by DJ and producer "Verano" from Magdeburg, Germany. Originally established in 2004 as an artist community, it quickly evolved into a netlabel platform. In celebration of his latest soundtrack for Naqqash Khalid's directorial debut, In Camera, Warp alumni and celebrated producer Clark presents a cinematic soundscape in his Bleep mix selection, an aural long panning shot moving across films and composers both legendary and modern classic in status. Featuring Popol Vuh (Heart Of Glass), Howard Shore (Videodrome) alongside Disasterpiece (It Follows) and Cristobal Tapia de Veer (Utopia) to name a few, while further highlighting the juxtaposition in a bold move cutting the themes for both Solaris films next to each other.

“Really enjoyed compiling this mix of OST stuff I'm rather fond of. Yes it starts with an 8 minute track. But it's Popol Vuh and it has one of the most gorgeous end sections ever. It was interesting hearing the two Solaris themes next to each other. It's obvs more trendy to be all "oh I prefer the original Solaris score- and all the deleted stuff that only 3 people on Earth have heard" but I actually really like the Martinez version as well. It was interesting to me hearing the complete shift in timbre that 30 years of evolved music making tools bring-The slick slightly airlocked, clean layers of Martinez contrasting with the Artymev glowing, encrusted analogue 70's organs burnt to tape. But the emotional space feels similar.” - Clark
