On the 30th December 2013, myself and DJ Stryda met up and put this mix together. For those that aren't familiar with Stryda, he has been a stalwart veteran in the roots scene in Bristol for many years and is half of the internationally acclaimed group, Dubkasm [https://soundcloud.com/dubkasm]

The aim of this mix, much like the other recent roots mixes I have put together, was to piece together and showcase an array of sound and styles that have influenced the music that both me and Stryda create, records that have helped form a foundation for us as musicians and selectors. 

I chose some favourites of mine from Stryda's vast record collection and we started recording. A journey in to dub.

-このミックスはどちらでどのように制作されたのですか？


今回のミックスは僕のベットルームで録音したんだ。
子供の頃にカセットデッキでDJミックスの真似事を始めてから、しばらくしてガールフレンドにレコードでミッ
クステープを作ったよ。僕は2001 年頃に自分のDJミックスを"pogosessions"と名付けて作る様になったんだ。
2005年位からAbleton Liveを使う様になってその時のDJミックスは実際にCDとしてリリースされた物もあるよ。
最近の”pogosessions”はコンパクトの soundcloudで聴けるよ。DJミックスでは僕の作る音楽のインスピレー
ションとなるし、実際にクラブでDJプレイする為の準備になるん だ。


-このミックスのコンセプトがあれば教えて下さい。

聴いてくれる人と一緒に僕自身も楽しめる、コンパクトから新しくリリースされるテラノヴァの新作と友達のト
ラックをミックスしたよ。時々昔のクラ シック・チューンも入れてカット＆ペースト、レイヤー、、破壊と再
構築だね。


-最近の活動を教えてください。

新しいアルバム「Restless」をリリースするよ！
去年の夏にコンパクトのミヒャエル・マイヤーが２枚目のアルバムを作ろうと提案してくれて、リリースする事
になったんだ。その依頼を受けた時は、 同時に映画の音楽も頼まれていてあまり時間的な余裕も無かったんだ
けど、映画「インターステラー」を観に行ったらアルバムに対するモチベーション が一気に上がってきて2カ月
でこのアルバムを完成させる事が出来たんだよ。嬉しい事にアルバムのトラックは既にDJヘルやスヴェン・ヴァ
ス、ウエ ストバム等の友人DJにとても良いフィードバックを貰っているんだ。僕らの仲間のシンガー達も沢山
招いているよ。今回のアルバムも、これまでの僕 等のアルバムと同じくNASAのケプラーミッション（銀河系の
なかに地球型惑星がどのくらい存在するかを探求しているミッション）に強くインスパ イアーされた作品なん
だ。僕らはその新しい惑星に移住して新しいクラブをオープンさせてダンスしたいんだ！


-今後の予定を教えてください。

アルバムにも参加してくれた古くからの友人であるロンドンのステレオMCと一緒に彼の新しいアルバムを制作中
なんだ。新しいレーベ ル”connected"を作って彼をもう一度ダンスフロアに呼び戻そうとしているよ。9月には
今回のアルバム「Restless」のリミックス 作品がリリースされる予定でDJヘルやダニー・デイズ、アダム・
ポート等が参加しているんだ。そして今イギー・ポップとウエストバムの「Iron Music」のリミックスを作って
るよ。週末はいつもクラブでプレイしているし、、、そうそう、明日は僕の家のキッチンでBoiler Roomの撮影
をするんだ（笑）！

INTERVIEW
1. How would you describe your sound?

“One word I can say is groovy. I love a nice groove in a track and it’s the most important thing for me when I chose tracks for my DJ sets.”

2. How did you learn producing?

“It all started in 1994. My older brother was experimenting with a software called Octamed and I was really fascinated by the sound, creativity and making dance music. Then we started to collect a lot of analogue gear and made a really decent studio using only midi at that time. We learned everything on our own since back then there were not any schools or Youtube videos to give you a head start. Of course it was quite difficult and time consuming to learn all these things by your own. But I am so glad I passed through that stage though because I can really understand a lot about electronic music now.”

3. What keeps you going?

“It’s the power of the habit. I really love house music and I have been doing it for 22 years now so it’s difficult for me to imagine a day of not being in the studio.”

4. What makes you laugh?

“Everything! I laugh a lot and with simple things in life. I am a happy person.”

5. What makes dance music so special to you?

“Dance music played a significant role in my life since I grew up with it. It is what kept me out of drugs and out of trouble growing up. It made me a better person in every aspect respecting everyone who tries the best in life because I have been trying so long myself. Dance music gave me true friends. Dance music is half me.”

6. Next release?

“I have a remix coming on Snatch! Records which I am really excited about, a remix on Resonance Records which is on fire lately and I have signed an EP to Eats Everything label who is one of my favorite artists.”

7. What you can’t stand?

“Toupé is something that most of the people cannot stand but other than that I can pretty much stand everything.”

We're excited to announce our first full length on Scrub a Dub and we couldn't be prouder of the music.

Soulquencies is the brand new album from the artist Aquarius, a classically trained musician from Tokyo who cut his teeth in the music industry in Glasgow in the early noughties. He hosted some of the city’s first dubstep nights bringing artists like Silkie and Goth Trad, and taking small basement sessions into the bigger clubs, supporting Mala at the Art School. He played at some of the frst Outlook festival parties and was a trusted tour engineer for Mungo’s Hi Fi Soundsystem, before returning to Tokyo where he distilled his experiences and musical vision into this project.
