Pleased to say that this 120 minutes defined a generation. 1999 was such a golden year for Trance music and many people reference this very set as opening their eyes to the power of Trance.

It's hard to believe how groundbreaking and well-polished some of the tunes that I selected and played out, really were!! This mix still sounds timeless judging by today's standards and features tunes from the likes of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten, long before they became household names. Gatecrasher is an international clubbing brand made famous by the "Gatecrasher" (later "Crasher") dance music events, which were held at the Republic nightclub in Sheffield, UK during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The promoters of the brand were Linus Schaxmann, Simon Raine and Simon Oates and, until 2004, Scott Bond. By August 2014, the only Gatecrasher venue remaining was located in the United Kingdom city of Birmingham. This venue was closed down permanently by the authorities on 25 November 2015.

so, this is my essential mix. i want to say a few things about it!

before writing "worlds", i'd been feeling kinda pessimistic about the future of electronic music. so once i was done writing "worlds" over the course of 2~ish years, i just felt the need to find new stuff that i loved. i did a ton of soundcloud digging, basically, and most of the music in this mix was music i found that way. that's not to say that there aren't classics or songs i've known for a while here, but it's mostly new music.

then BBC radio 1 asked me to do an essential mix, and it seemed like the perfect way to showcase new stuff i was into.

i also feel like it's important to point out that this mix isn't what the worlds tour is going to sound like, really - that tour is going to be only my own music. all originals. (also it's going to be a blast and a visual journey and other stuff i can't talk about yet ehehe).

Even with all the negative press surrounding Gatecrasher over these recent months and even years, I would still frequently find myself going back and listening to one of the 26 compilations they have released over the years. Say whatever you want about them, but these compilations had some awesome tunes, which lead me to this. I hope those of you that are able to can put aside your grievances and join me on a nostalgic "member berry" infused journey of the easier clubbing days! These are MY favorite tracks included in the compilations up to the year 2007 when that unfortunate inferno occurred at S1 1DJ.
