Like most of my edits I don't really like to mess with tunes that I love and consider perfection. I only really add an intro and outro with few FX's to allow me to mix these classics into my DJ sets.

Monthly mix series where I invite one of my DJ mates drop into The Shack and play some tunes.

First up is fellow 4Play resident Everybody Luvs Alf. Alf has been DJing since he was 14 when he bought his first set of vinyl decks and a 2 channel mixer. Alf treated us to a magical 2 hours of disco infused house which definitely hit the spot.

Crafted this remix during the soggy summer season, and it lit up the dancefloors every time I dropped it. A huge fan of Yuksek's music, I was inspired by a version I heard on Melvo Baptiste's Glitterbox show. Sister Sledge - Love Don't You Go....HMH Disco Biscuit Mix

This track started life as a DJ Tool for my sets and really kind of evolved from there. Its an ode to the David Morales Def Dub remixes of the 90s when he would take a huge vocal track and strip the vocals bare and then layer to create a darker grittier 5am vibe.
The track was created by stripping back Mousse T's superb Funk mix of the original.

Heaven - The Vision (House Meanz House Streets Are Burning Dub)

Heard this track few weeks back on Glitterbox Radio Show and forgot just how good it sounded. 
I love the original but its a bit DJ unfriendly as the arrangement lacks any real intro. So all I've really done with this edit is provide an extended intro for the main body of the track and an outro for mixing back out again,  hopefully I've managed to keep the feel and vibe of the original. Hope you enjoy.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC - DAYTON (HOUSE MEANZ HOUSE HILLS ARE ALIVE EDIT)

I just love Sandy Rivera's work but this is probably my favourite. Just everything about the it is perfect from the bass line to the drums to the stunning vocals and lyrics. My version is really just a dub of the original taking samples of vocals and layering them together to form a percussive element to the track. I also added a little bit of my own one finger piano playing to give it that trippy daydream effect. Hope you enjoy.

KINGS OF TOMORROW- FALL FOR YOU (HMH DAYDREAM DUB)

I heard this for the first time in ages recently on 6 Music, its such an uplifting feelgood track something we definitely need more of these days. 

I'm personally not a fan though of the solo section of the original so have cut that wee section out, then rearranged the track so that the piano solo is not slam at the start of the track and introduced a few beats as an intro to make it easier to mix in for dodgy DJs like me.
 
I've hopefully not ruined the track for any fans of the original and if I do I apoligise in advance.

Stand On The Word - Joubert Singers (HMH Promised Land Edit)

Like most of my edits this track started life as A DJ Tool I was creating to use when playing the original of this classic.
It is made up of samples of 2 different remixes of the original and my edit is a homage to the days when DJs would often buy 2 copies of a 12" so that they could mix the different mixes of the track to create their own unique sound.

Finally - Kings Of Tomorrow (House Meanz House 4AM Dub)

This was one of my favourite tracks from last year, the production is immense with real session musicians and Kimberley Davis providing the killer vocals. When I was working on this edit I began to truly appreciate the work that had went into the strings and horns, which I tried my best to hold on to.
Getting this Edit past Soundcloud was a bit of a challenge in its self and the edit you hear is about the 10th version, there is another version with more of the original chorus and vocals if you fancy a copy pm me and I'll email you a copy.

Life Is A Dancefloor - Shapeshifters (House Meanz House Clear The Floor Dub)

I can remember this track being a big tune back in late 80s but didn't realise that it went UK Top 20. The original was produced by the legendary Blaze with the dream team of Frankie Knuckles and David Morales teaming up for the "One Mix" remix. 
Before tackling this remix I had the usual search round the internet for bootlegs and remixes of this track and was surprised by how little had been done. I recently heard Michael Grays remix on his Glitterbox stream and there's a great wee film on his Facebook page showing how he literally started from scratch creating his remix, when I started mine I realised why. The track is very busy in that there is very little you can cut out and use for remix purposes, there's no real vocal breakdown that you would normally find on a big vocal track and there is loads of percussion and snare drums throughout the track. Hopefully though with a bit of patience and EQ'ing I've got enough out of it to do a decent job on this.

One Man - Chanelle (House Meanz House One Love Mix)

Been working away on lots of edits and remixes during lock down and this is one I've been meaning to do for a wee while, was going to keep it to myself for my DJ Sets at festivals this summer but since that's not happening I'll just put it out there. Inspiration for this edit came from an old DJ Pierre Hardtimes mixtape, where he mixes these two tracks to stunning effect.

Throw - Paperclip People (House Meanz House Fall Down Edit)

Another David Morales remix classic from the early 90's back when he was probably at the top of his game creatively. The Def Classic Mix is so bursting with ideas that it's practically 3 different tracks in one. I've tried to use the superb outro section of the track which due to the length of the track was not often not heard in clubs or mixes and use it as the foundation for my remix.
