"Efter att ha levt alldeles för länge med huvudet böjt, kom jag äntligen tillbaks till livet och öste ur mig allt jag kände i låt efter låt. En dag tog det slut. Tvärt. Det var som att orden försvann, som att allting hade blivit nedtecknat som var tvunget att komma ut.
Jag blundade och såg alla drömmar som små lysande pärlor, uppträdda på trådar som sträckte sig över tid och rum.
På nyårsaftonen satt jag vid pianot och hörde någon sjunga svagt på parkeringen nedanför, jag hörde inte orden, men melodin i all sin enkelhet fyllde mig med lugn. Jag var inte längre den som hukade mig, jag var fri och stark och lycklig och vi såg fyrverkerierna explodera ett par timmar senare och jag visste att jag aldrig mer ska låta mig själv försvinna så som jag gjorde.”

Under 2000-talet turnerade David Fridlund runt i Europa och släppte framgångsrika skivor med David & The Citizens, sen tog allt abrupt slut och David emigrerade till USA. Där kunde allt varit över. Men 13 år senare återförenades David & The Citizens för en spelning på Malmöfestivalen 2022 och Davids liv skulle åter igen abrupt förändras. Sedan 2022 bor han i Göteborg och I ett kreativt rus skapat av den emotionella och fysiska resan tillbaka till Sverige skrev han en mängd låtar, nu på svenska. Då han skickade dem till några musikerkompisar drabbades de alla av den kraft som en poplåt kan ge och bandet ior va skapat. 2024 släppte de sitt självbetitlade debutalbum. 9 januari 2026 kommer uppföljaren ”Livsvärk”. Efter första singeln ”Tiotusen” släpptes andra smakprovet ”Havsglas” 31 okt. Nu matar de på med tredje singeln ”Nattryttare” 21 nov.
 
ior’s andra album är en fortsättning på det första. Där förra skivan kom till i ett euforiskt tillstånd, framkallat av David Fridlunds flykt från ett söndertrasat förhållande i USA och den överväldigande känslan av att från en dag till en annan kunna göra precis som man vill, är ”Livsvärk” en samling reflektioner över livet, val man gjort och hur man hamnar där man hamnar.
 
Bandet ior är från Göteborg och spelar emotionell powerpop och består förutom David Fridlund från David & the Citizens av Daniel Fridlund, David Bergström och Mathias Engwall som tidigare spelat eller spelar med band och artister som Kid Down, Joel Alme, European Sons, Llawgne, New Moscow mf. De flätar samman en blandning av indie-pop, shoegaze, kompromisslös rock-attityd, blandar in de vackraste melodier, alla starka nog att bara framföras akustiskt men här skrudade i eteriskt oljud och vindlande slingor.
 
”Livsvärk” är tankar om tiden som gått och vem man var i början av vuxenlivet, känslan av sorg över missade tillfällen, blandat med tryggheten i att bli äldre och hitta lugnet i sig själv. Den ständigt närvarande känslan av att inte passa in och att aldrig riktigt kunna sätta fingret på exakt vad det är som gör att det känns så. Albumet är i allra högsta grad en hyllning till livet och ett erkännande att livet utan smärta kanske inte erbjuder lika mycket som erfarenheten av att ha gått igenom jävligt jobbiga saker och kommit ut stärkt på andra sidan.
