Sam Laxton is a British producer and DJ who has transcended genres to create his unique blend of Techno & Trance. Globally recognized in the industry for his varied musical output, Sam has a vast catalogue of releases ranging from Breakbeat to Progressive and Tech-Trance. He is the resident of international festival brands Inakoma and Unkonscious. 

Kicking off in 2013, Sam has released singles across multiple genres, receiving support from industry heavyweights such as Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Maddix, Trym, I Hate Models, Indira Paganotto, Mha Iri, Azyr, Omaks, TDJ, Aly & Fila, and many more. Releasing singles and EP’s on Armada, Sonaxx, Bonzai, FSOE, Black Hole, and via self release, Sam has built a fanbase of regular listeners who contribute to over 1,500,000 streams per year. The Northern Irishman’s blend of quirky Eurodance synths, uplifting trance grandeur and hard-hitting bass rhythms goes beyond catchy melodies and expert timing, as breakout hits “Lagoon” and “Youth” tap into the very essence of what makes a night spent on the dancefloor with your best mates such a special experience.

 

That’s why he’s earned more than 145 million views on TikTok, filled a Creamfields tent with thousands of ravers at 1 p.m. on a Sunday, and why he’s managed to get an official remix of Madison Avenue’s 1999 hit “Don’t Call Me Baby” after ripping the iconic vocal off the internet.

 

Crowds chant his name from Taiwan to Texas because Billy Gillies dares to do something different; something unique to himself. Now, Billy Gillies is the next superstar-DJ-in-the-making, poised to take over the world.

 

Billy’s musical obsession started in the 2000s when his older sister started buying Clubland compilation CDs and dating a local DJ. One night, the boyfriend came over and brought his decks, but when the couple left to go dancing, 11-year-old Billy snuck into his sister’s room and started playing with the turntables.

 

“I was like, ‘what is this music? I love this,’” he laughs. “On the Christmas list for that year was a set of decks.”

 

His mom delivered with his first set of Kam belt drives, and Billy’s been mad for mixing ever since. Each Saturday, he’d head out of the house with a five Pound note and spend it on a new record (Tiesto’s Traffic being particularly influential). In turn, he’d spend the next week learning to mix that record in and out of his steadily growing collection.

 

When he was 17, he got his first taste of true Clubland. A year underaged, he caught an hour-long bus from Belfast to Banbridge and talked his way into a club called Coach. Japanese DJ Yoji Biomehanika and the UK’s own Lisa Lashes dropped heavy hard-house records all night, and Billy started dreaming of his own chance to rock a crowd, proper.

 

He knew that if he wanted to be an in-demand DJ, he’d have to come up with some original songs. In 2011, he locked himself in his bedroom with a copy of Ableton Live and didn’t come out until he’d mastered the basic trance sound.

 

He fell in love with music production and started sending his tracks to BBC Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules, who played them on his show every Friday night. For 19-year-old Billy, there was nothing better.

 

After spending much of his 20s as a self-described “party animal,” 28-year-old Billy once again locked himself inside his bedroom and churned out a ton of original tunes. The result? A spot on the lineup of Luminosity 2019 alongside major trance legends Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery and more. He played a set of all-original material, and when a recording was posted to Soundcloud, it earned more plays than any of the headliners.

 

“I’d brung a fresh sound into the trance scene,” Gillies says. “Everyone was making the same type of thing, where I just look back at my influences growing up and crammed it into the main trance style.”

 

International booking requests flooded in, sending him to Argentina to Australia—and then COVID struck. Many of his peers saw no point releasing music to a locked-down crowd, but Billy saw a chance to experiment.

 

“People need music in hard times, not just for clubs,” he says. “The music I was making around that time was proper emotional melodies, and it was resonating with everyone.”

 

He’d share each tune in a rough clip to Facebook or TikTok, and every post brought shares in the thousands. His fan base wasn’t just growing, it was ballooning, due in part not only to his masterful skills in the studio but also his effervescent personality that spills into each tune.

Trance fans around the world have seen Alex Sonata & TheRio grow into melodic dance music mainstays over the last several years.  Once an international collaborative act, Scotland’s Fraser Shaw and Italy’s Riccardo Derio joined forces to officially become a duo in 2020 after releasing music on labels owned and operated by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, and more.

Having debuted on Anjunabeats in 2021, the duo quickly garnered support across the spectrum of today’s trance industry, and immediately became staple contributors to the sets of label heads Above & Beyond.  Off the back of performances at Group Therapy Weekender at the Gorge, Anjunabeats’ Miami Music Week pool party, and more recently, on the Anjunabeats Outdoors and After Dark tours, they were invited to compile and mix the latest installment of the Anjunabeats Worldwide series, a mix series that serves as a launchpad for the next big act in the Anjunabeats arena and the wider trance scene. t the intersection of house and frisson-thrill trance, you’ll find Stefan Brünig, a producer now infinitely better known under his professional alias… Steve Brian. 

Hailing from the Lower Saxony region, the young German first cut his musical teeth on the renowned Euphonic imprint, quickly and successfully spinning his production profile off into a into a DJ career that seen him in high demand behind the decks throughout his native Germany. Five years down the line and Steve’s DJ’d the world’s A-to-Z - everywhere from Antigua, on the Ministry of Sound’s recent club tour to Russia’s Renaissance Club (and numerous points in between). He’s also expanded his label remit to a host of other highly regarded imprints, most recently signing to Cosmic Gate’s WYM Records. His ‘Time & Time’ debut for the label created instant heat with fans, DJs and the press alike (with MIXMAG scoring it highly and trumpeting: “if you’re after some irrepressibly feel-good music this month, you may well find it here!)”. 

A remixer of consummate skill, scope and imagination, he’s reworked the music of both electronic music and classical composing legends, with everyone from Tiësto to James Horner (Avatar) and Mike Oldfield benefiting from his hyper-imaginative sonic restructures. 

Over a relatively short time, Steve’s amassed a sizeable and impressive discography, which has seen him release his productions through tier-one labels like Armada, Enhanced and Euphonic. With a non-denominational sound and vocal appeal, Steve’s melodies have thus far found him most quickly embraced by trance & progressive fans. MIXMAG said that his ‘Blood & The Wine’ release for Enhanced was “a great vocal defined”, while DJ Mag scored Euphonic’s ‘Neno Itome’ 4/5, describing it as “an express train of thrashing beats, punchy percussion and bouncy bass” and pronouncing it “a whopper”!

Releases like ‘Time & Time’, ‘Fire Sign’, ‘Yaya’, ‘Avocado’ and ‘La Gomera’ have quickly seen him become a go-to guy for many of the electronic music scene’s upper DJ echelon. His music now enjoys consistent deck support from leading trance lights including Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond & Ferry Corsten, as well as house flamers like Tiësto, W&W & Swanky Tunes. His music has proved every bit as popular on the radio, with ‘Fire Sign’ bagging a Tune of the Week on Armin’s A State Of Trance and ‘La Gomera’ scoring an ASOT Future Favourite and Record Of The Week on Above & Beyond’s radio show. Like many of this others, the tracks enjoyed comparable sales success, both entering the Beatport top 10.

In other studio and music release mediums, Steve is equally versed. In 2010, he released his debut artist album (the 14-track-strong long-player ‘Calera’) through Euphonic and since his earliest productions, he’s been a keen and innovative studio collaborator. This has seen him team up with a range of producers and singers, including ones as diverse as American folk vocalist David Berkeley and Spanish language group Almadrava.

Steve is every bit as adept a remixer as he is a producer. Included among his work are remixes of the massive club hits ‘Live Forever’ by Lange & Emma Hewitt and Alex M.O.R.P.H. ‘From The Universe With Love’. He’s also rebuilt the tracks of many a trance mainstay, Cosmic Gate, Audien, Tritonal, Lange, Andy Moor, Alex MORPH, Kyau & Albert, Ronski Speed among them. Most notably, in 2010 he reinterpreted ‘I See You’ – the James Horner-composed theme from the movie ‘Avatar’ for club floors and the following year reworked ‘Stay Forever’, from shared Tiësto / Showtek project Allure. In Steve also worked with Mike Oldfield on the latter’s revision of his classic ‘Tubular Bells’ album for the release of ‘Tubular Beats’.

In an ever expanding global electronic music scene with new artists appearing every day, it takes nothing short of raw talent to stand out. Adding to Somna’s Beatport success, “One Thing About You” won the 2015 award for the most streamed trance track on Beatport.

2015 and 2016 also saw multiple Somna releases reach the top 10 on Beatport, with tracks featuring the likes of Jennifer Rene & Michele C. To mark Lange Recordings’ 200th release, Somna was invited to team up with Johnny Yono and Monoverse.  The result was “Hijackers”, a triple threat labor of love which reached #3 on the Beatport charts. During these years, Somna also made two label debuts (Armada Captivating and Future Sound Of Egypt Excelsior) and joined the trance elite as he had the honor of mixing a 3 disc compilation alongside Andy Moor for AVA Recordings' 10 year anniversary. Coupled by a truly rare triple play on A State Of Trance (episode #791), 2016 was fantastic year for Somna.

His success carried over into 2017 as Somna showed no signs of slowing down.  As one of the few trance artists hitting 100k+ monthly listeners on Spotify, Somna has an average monthly listener base of 140,000+ and the yearly collected data showed a staggering 13.4 million plus minutes streamed for his music on the #1 streaming platform.  

2018 was a powerhouse year for Somna with a new single on Armada's Captivating label, hitting the landmark 1 million streams for his single "Look Back" on Spotify and debut appearances in Jakarta (Indonesia), Oslo (Norway), Zurich (Switzerland) and Amsterdam (Netherlands).
As the label manager, A&R and co-owner of AVA Recordings, Somna continues to make strides while playing an important role within the scene. 

His monthly radio show entitled “Reanimate Music” broadcasts every second Monday on Afterhours.fm, the #1 trance radio station in the world.
