Sleeve-note: I wrote this piece around the time that my nephew was born. He's the first baby in the family after me (!!)...so as you can imagine, it was an exciting time for us all :) Watching Callie's animation made me wonder if he would one day embark on his own artistic journey, as Kimberley does in the animation short. Having him in my life inspired me; it helped me reflect on how those first moments as a child creating art (or in my case - music) can begin a beautiful life-long passion that stays in your heart throughout the good and bad days. As a result, I dedicated 'A Life in Art' to him... and to all the children out there who will take their first steps into the world of being an 'artiste' :)

This piece has 54 beats each minute. At Angkor Wat, a Hindu temple carving has 54 gods in opposition to 54 demons, and in their struggle they create immortality. Mystics (or mathematicians... whatever) in Ancient Greece knew of the prime factorization of this mystic number. 3 by 3 by 3 by 2. What does this all mean? Not much, as it turns out the concept of a "minute" wasn't familiar to the architects at Angkor Wat.

I don't think I could recognize what the first living thing was. It is like making a soup. Hot water? Not soup. Hot water with salt? Not soup. Add a potato? Still not soup. That's just a potato in hot salt water. At some point it becomes soup. Same with life. Bonus fact: Borscht was never soup. It is borscht.

Matt Uelman's 12-string guitar theme as you entered Tristram for the first time perfectly set the scene in Diablo 1, and later iterations saw the music become even creepier and epic! After seeing Captain Marvel recently, I'm pretty hyped for Avengers: Endgame. Soo... here's an orchestral overture for AE using original themes by Alan Silvestri.

It starts off a little mournful (where Infinity War left us), but then kicks into avenging mode by about 2:15. 

The mockup was mostly using EW Hollywood Orchestra, with some Tina Guo cello at the beginning, and some Oceania choir at the end.

I might also release the MIDI for this one soon - hopefully those interested can learn something from my programming?

Overture for 'Avengers: Endgame'

This piece was written for a protagonist who is still trying to make her journey through the world. It has a celtic feel, with elements of hope, adventure and melancholy. This version is solely for piano but an orchestral arrangement is currently in the pipeline.

🌌 'One Eye on the Stars' - Star Trek: Picard - Re-orchestrated 🌌

I'm really getting invested in the new Picard series - mostly because the nostalgia is strong. The main theme by Jeff Russo is quite nice, but I thought I'd have a go at making a more bolder version. Not sure if I succeeded, but it was fun nonetheless :D. 

I included some more direct lines to the older Star Trek themes - the opening few notes are quite iconic - particularly for those fond of 'The Next Generation'.

'One Eye on the Stars' -- ST: Picard Re-orchestrated

I performed the medley live 10 years on from the first ever one I uploaded. This one goes out to the team beyond BG&E and all the fans :)

It has been a decade since this wonderful game was released to the public. Its brilliant soundtrack by Christophe Heral has been one of the most inspiring things to touch my journey as a musician and composer. I arranged snippets of Christophe's music in 2007, and my subsequent YouTube rendition became the basis of a great friendship with my musical hero. 

Today I present to you a medley that I finally got round to recording. This medley incorporates 'Home Sweet Home', 'Thoughtful Reflections', finishing up with the original piano arrangement from 2007. 

This track is dedicated to Christophe and Patrice Heral, and to the artistic powerhouse behind this beautiful game.

'Beyond Good and Evil' Medley - Piano Arrangement

An epic re-orchestration of the main themes from Daft Punk's score for Tron: Legacy. The recent news about Daft Punk breaking up spurred me to make this, as their score for has Tron: Legacy has really influenced me over the last decade. 

The score is a masterclass in the blending of synth and orchestra, and some big props also have to go to Joseph Trapanese, who worked with Daft Punk as the orchestrator (and who also worked with M83 on his score for Oblivion - another score I'm super-fond of!).

I've worked in a few themes from the film, and I've listed them below with timecodes:

00:00 -- 'Overture'
02:02 -- 'The Grid'
03:02 -- 'Recognizer' (mixed with a little 'The Game Has Changed / Rinzler')
04:27 -- 'Adagio for TRON'
05:14 -- 'Son of Flynn' (plus a little bit of ad-lib...)
06:25 -- 'Tron: Legacy' theme, one last time!

It's hard to do justice to such a wonderful score, but it was super-fun nonetheless. Enjoy!
